Ampeg V4 Club

love these amps! i have 3... vt22 with the metal knobs, v4 w/ master, late 70s with wack distortion knob. also have one of the 4x12s. i keep thinking about getting a 2nd but i have so many cabs already. in this pic i swapped the metal knob one into the head box and the master vol into the combo cab:

Nice! what exactly does that distortion knob do/sound like?

it adds distortion, but kind of like in addition to the dry signal iirc. since i havent touched that knob since i bought the amp 8years ago i agree when most people seem to think its useless- although i'm mainly a guitar player and never thought to try the distortion knob for bass.

Here's a video of me (with my V4/610 rig) at the WoodshopRocks.com open house. Skip ahead to the 20:15 mark, if you don't want to watch the interview of the woodshop instructor (though it's a pretty awesome program - a middle school woodshop program where the kids make their own guitars!).

The first bass I'm playing is my Peavey Millenium Plus 5. The second one is my own El Diablo bass (Warmoth J body, Allparts fretless neck).

Then this band I was in at the time had a 2-week gig at this local bar, and we ended our first week and we left our stuff there on our days off, and the next morning the place burns to the ground due to a wiring short and everything in the bar was reduced to rubble. We were never able to collect insurance, either. Thank God for student loans, that's all I can say!

A too-familiar story. I gigged for years (on drums) with a bassist friend of mine. Years before that, he gigged with an early 70s SVT and 810 rig. Then he left it in a club overnight once and the club burned to the ground that night. The amp was shot after that and the 810 was damaged. But, somewhat happy ending, just last year, he actually got his old 810 back (turned out his brother ended up with it somehow - small town life!) and got another early 70s SVT (and got his old P bass restored by johnk_10) and is gigging with that rig again now!
