Ampeg V4 Club

#26: Kramerbassfan; V4

I kind of liked the blacktape, I'm more amazed that the pawn shop let you steal it from them. And I had thought that I had got a pretty good deal on mine.

I liked it at first, but trust me, it looks much better without the tape. The tape looks good in that low res photo, but in person it was just gross.

I got it for $100 because it was "broken", needed a tube or two and a bunch of caps. When he said "$100", I darn near yelled SOLD! without a second thought and ran out of there with it.

I use it primarily as my main amp, along with a Marshall Superbass Clone I built. Used to have a Sunn Coliseum 300, but I sold it. Nowadays I just run my V4 and Superbass into a few cabs I have.

Count me in with my V-4B head and V-cab.

I dont believe for a second you "ran out" of anywhere with a Ampeg V4..... Because it's heavy ya know?

:spit: :D:D Thats the darn near part...... :bassist:

That said, I did pick up a early 70's V4 cab that needs to be restored.

Found one (V4) in a hole in the wall store next to a flea market in the middle of no where. My friend went in and the lady working told him $300. He went and got me and I went in and she got suspicious and called the store owner, he said $500. Disappointing.

I'm sorry Alex I don't what that means. What is/was the intended use of these inputs?

Basically, you could use two V4s, but hook the second up to the first from the EXT. AMP out of amp #1 to one of the EXT. AMP inputs of amp #2, by passing that amps pre section. You'd then control both amps with amp #1s controls.

I did this at a crazy drunk house show a little while back, each amp going into its own 1x15:

For the recent stuff my band has recorded, I've been using the EXT AMP out into a DI along with a mic signal, and it sounds awesome together.

I'm not sure what Ampeg originally intended, but basically you can connect another v4 by connecting one pre-amp out into the power amp in on the other amp. By doing this, you are able to get the power of both, and control it with only one amp, so you don't need to plug the bass into two amps.

Edit: it appears tallchris already explained it.
