Ampeg V4 Club

Basically, you could use two V4s, but hook the second up to the first from the EXT. AMP out of amp #1 to one of the EXT. AMP inputs of amp #2, by passing that amps pre section. You'd then control both amps with amp #1s controls.

I did this at a crazy drunk house show a little while back, each amp going into its own 1x15:

For the recent stuff my band has recorded, I've been using the EXT AMP out into a DI along with a mic signal, and it sounds awesome together.

This would double the wattage, yes? Does it HAVE to be another V4?

Yes. And no, you just use any amp with a power section, as long as both amps are connected to speakers.

I'm really kind of a simpleton when it comes to this kind of stuff. I don't have two V4 but could I hook up say a modern amp to a cabinet and my V4 to cabinet and then basically get the tone of the V4 into both cabinets? And if yes, how is the connection actually made?

It would depend on the "modern" amp, and if it has an power amp in on it (it might be known as a slave input). What amp do you have in mind?

YESSSSSS count me in! V4b for President! Mine fell off my cab while wheeling it on the cab to the car (dang chunck of concrete holding the door open, also lesson learned) and it fell flat on its face. Didn't even phase it. My dad handed it down to me...I used to play with my GI Joes on it as a kid. LOVE LIVE THE V4B, and the conversations we have after gigs because of them. :D

Would you be using a solid state power amp?

Just something I was musing about. I just wondered if there was a way to keep the tone of the V4 and increase it's overall headroom by hooking it up with another more powerful rig. I don't have a dedicated power amp but I do have a TCE450 classic. Could we hook up the classic to a speak and the V4 to a speaker and the combine the two? Getting the tonal palette of the V4b but with a bump in power from the Classic?

You should be able to use the out from the ext. amp into the TC's effects return. That would essentially bypass the TC's pre section, just using it as a power amp. At the very least, worth a try!

I did that with mine once, fortunately for me it was in a road case, but it went from the top of the cap straight down on it's side. Opened up the case and the power tubes were rolling around, popped them back in and it fired up just fine and sounded perfect that night.

I probably won't do much of anything. I had considered selling the V4b but it's in such good shape and records really well. It's too heavy for me to gig with so I think I'll park it at rehearsal along with the Goliath II. It should be more than enough power for practice and will allow me to enjoy that fat tone without having to haul it to gigs and worry about not having enough power to cover the gig.
