Ampeg V4 Club

Here's my V4. No idea what age it is but I'm guessing old .

I don't know how far I'd want them to stray from the formula. They're already going to have to use more common tubes. I'd like to see them keep some of the charm of the old one. But I guess if it's implemented well, people would buy it regardless. But I draw the line at installing a DI on it ;)

I share some of your trepidations Jimmy but for me as much as I love the tone of my V4b it's just not something that I can gig with anymore. We don't many situations where we have PA support and it becomes a cumulative thing - the lack of power requires more speaker which means more weight to haul around which my tired old back just can't handle.

All that said, I'm not selling it.

Can I join?! 76 ish (I think) v4b

Can I get a number?

Using it with a SVT-15E.

Love my V4, just wish it was a little mo lightah! Had to put in new caps and the output tranny fried--literally--just after I bought it (gee, I wonder if this is why the guy was selling it...or he is the luckiest dude around), but now that it is all sorted out it sounds great.

Billy-Bob

No number needed, just a pic. Early Magnavox version I believe.

Hmmmm...... Dual mono cable? IE both male ends are tip and ring only, not TRS. Then the female is also TR.

Yeah I picked up a Hosa cable from sam ash Friday that was femle 1/4th into two male 1/4ths. Said it was for Mono signal. $8.

I played it for 15 minutes with just normal input one only, and then jacked in the Y cable...HOLY FRIJOLES. I had both input 1 and 2 volumne's at the same level, and the beast roars! Played a full hour afterwards just blowing my own face off, rotating between my Eb-0 and my pawn shop princess P-bass. Added another 45 mintue session with my jazz yesterday and still amazed.

Its louder, and feels like a magnifying glass gets put on the harmonics, etc. Could be the eq I had it at (12'o high/12'o mid/1'o low). I have the switches from left to right: switched to the righ/set at middle/switched to the left.

Its for sure a slightly different, wonderful creature with them both plugged in. Kinda like a turbo once it has enough intake air...

If anyone wants I'll A/B it and include some sound files tomorrow night.

You can also use a split box like the Lehle P-split, instead of the Y cable.
I used to plug my Rick 4003 with a Y 1 stereo / 2 mono cable from the Ric'o'sound output to both inputs, to get one PU through each channel.
Great sound too.
But now I prefer to do that with my B25B, because the two channels have more different characters from each other than in the V4B (where 1 and 2 are basically two inputs for the same channel), and you have separate Eq control on each channel.

I'm interested to hear this as well. The V4 amps it's really just two different inputs into the same pre-amp. The only difference is each one has it's own volume control/gain tube. I did notice when I had my V4 that one channel was louder than the other, but as they have separate tubes driving their gain and I put a NOS tube in one and not in the other (that and it was around 40 years old) it's not too surprising there was a little variance.
