Ampeg V4 Club

My flatback 8x10 is the same way, but there are no holes on the back size of the frame so it looks like it must have come that way. Or it's a repro frame that was made backwards? Either way, I've seen a few with logos on the "opposite" side so maybe we aren't alone.
I played a rental last week in Boston that had the logo on the opposite side of the cab. Old towel bar 70's cab. Pretty sure it was a home job since the cab was covered in Duratex and the cloth looked fairly new.

Hey guys,

I'm considering selling my SVT CL and switching to a V4B so I can finally afford a Spector. My question is, can it be used to get a really grindy metal tone? I know it will be good for the doomy stuff I play (because pf the Low wattage, all tube, etc.) but what about Pantera type stuff? Is this amp for me or should I stick to the CL? The CL won't do doom well because I can't get it to break up without getting kicked out of the practice space

Thanks!

It will do power tube distortion at a lower volume, yes. Not sure about how grindy it gets by cranking the preamp gain, though. I guess I'll let you know when it's out.

Oh, and one of the more attractive things about it is it works with 8 ohm cabs too, so you can rag the dogmeat out of a smaller cab and bring your volume down even farther if you need to without affecting your doom cred. Sell an SVT for it? For some people 100w tube is all they need. Sure is nice to have the big guns when you need it, though.

I use my v4b in the band I play bass for and I love it.

No master volume so by the time I have the volume set where I need it it's pretty overdriven.

Idk how grindy you need but if you need a reference I believe Code Orange Kids recorded their new record using a V4. Might not be your thing but just as a reference.

I'd tell you to check out my band but I didn't have the V4 yet when the songs were recorded.

With that said, YMMV.

could be wrong, but i believe their entire last album, return to dust was all guitars and bass on a V4. seems like the way to go lately.

Oh no, is there a special Ampeg tool out there that I don't know about...and must now hunt for obsessively?

Yes. Think of it as a quest. The guy that sold me mine included the bit with the sale, so I don't know where you find them.

I guess it's like those one-way screws in bathroom stalls so people don't go taking stuff apart they ain't meant to.

I hope the RI has these screws, otherwise, it's gonna suck. :p

Hey, do you guys have some weirdo screws holding in your 'H' panel on the back of the V4B? There are like a Robertson buy instead of being square, they are rectangle, and the short sides of the rectangle are actually round. Anybody?

You can get that screw bit at a good hardware store. It is called a "clutch drive".
