Amps you hate

I dont like most of the Ampeg stuff ive played. and the Hughes and Kettner stuff is weak also. But truthfully when it comes to backline I dont care what is up there I just run my Sadowski pre into the board and get a hot monitor mix and im good. I like things simple like that especially if I can show up with only my bass and a few cords.

I have a Demeter 201 series and I love it more than anything. Trust me, you cannot go wrong with this pre amp. The power amp of my choice is the Microtech 2400. This thing is basically a Macrotech without the bells and whistles.

The SWR SuperRedhead. How often have we heard this? I kept saying it wouldn't happen to me, but this weekend, mine burnt up. I wasn't pushing it too hard. It had plenty of breathing room on a small outdoor stage. The power side clip light blinked once and it shut down.

Settings? Noon on the Gain & Master. Flat treble with a 2 oclock bass bump and a slight boost to the "low-mids." Aural Enhancer at 1 oclock. Actually QUIETER than I run it indoors.

POOF! Done. Now I get to set about the process of getting it fixed under warranty? Advice anyone?

Use an independent shop, interview the tech to make sure he has a good grounding in electronics, and make sure they can do the warranty work for you.

I had a Redhead once, it blew up on me. I think it was an output transistor, don't remember exactly, but it was in the output side. Never trusted it again, sold it as soon as I got it back. To my knowledge, the guy who bought it still plays it to this day. The warranty desk tried to make me use a guy I had heard horror stories about, I called around to a few shops I had heard good things about, asked if they could do warranty work for SWR, they said sure, no problem. It was in for two days, and they gave me a bill for $20 or something, to cover what the warranty wouldn't. I gladly paid it, they were super quick and the work was almost invisible, until they showed me the parts.

My Behringer BX-3000T was a sweet head- almost impossible to get a bad sound out of it. Still have it for backup, but I think I'm gonna sell it soon. I also have a GK Backline 600, which is my primary backup.

That's my bass that I'm working on building. I've got to get the fretboard installed, radiused, fretted, tuners drilled and installed, final shaping, make my back control cover, final sanding, and finishing. So it's almost half-done. I almost never have any time to work on it any more!!! But I am going to make a concerted effort to finish it before the Nov. 5th Brian Bromberg clinic in Austin, as I want him to check it out, since his basses are the inspiration for mine. Oh, and he's a friend of mine, so I value his opinion.

I think it was a GK rig i played through had WAY too much treble, even though it had its treble at about halfway.

then i turned it down...
too much bass

probably not enough time to tweak it to a likeable setting
but hey we cant all win sometimes

theres one at my school and heres what i've noticed:

-sounds like sh**.
-play a low B through it and people will wonder who farted.
-it routinely cuts out all the low end and chops the volume in half for no reason.
-when turning it off or on it sounds like its hocking a loogie, and a really loud obnoxious one at that.
-its uglier than hell.
-for an amp that low-quality, its waaay to heavy.

and the infamous Squirrel 15.... ...need i say more? I smashed it with a pick-axe.

haha...yeah, if u truly want to play a bad amp try an old yamaha. Don't know what model, but I've had the misfortune to come across these a few times. A combo with a 15, I think. Words can't express how bad these are, they just get a sound, that's kinda uncontrollable.... I think we've all been spoilt.....try one of these and you'll be happy even on a Crate or Peavey.
