valerie is a cover though.. made half decent by mark ronson.
she needs to sort herself out, for her health/family/music career.
im not a fan of her at all but she has a lot of young followers in the uk. im not saying they are all going to smoke crack but she is in the papers and news most days about her drugs... kids are easily influenced..
her husband ( who is in prison) is even more of a waste of space..

At first I could not get over how much I disliked her music. Now I actually feel quite bad for her state. I read in the paper yesterday about her crack, and valium (among other drugs) use and it sounds like if she does not get help soon, she's going to die.

+1, this is for everyone who posted "her music is great", "her tunes are catchy", "the bass player is awesome", "the guitarist is awesome", etc. etc... the band is The Dap Kings, and they were tight before Amy's manager or whoever hired them. The quality of the music or the band's performance does not excuse or ameliorate Amy's crappy life behavior. It's not quite like a solo artist who is self-destructive but forgiven because they are a genius. It's more like an adequate novelty singer whose manager hired a really good professional band.
Okay, I think she's a very good talent, she has a lot of good things musically to say, and is playing some very good soul music. I know she has had drug issues for a while, one of my old housemates had a session with her and her then boyfriend a few years ago, and ended up getting her mobile nicked by the boyfriend. Valerie is a fantastic cover of a rather poor attempt at a pop song, if anyone hasn't heard the original its by a band called the zootons, and is quite forgettable if I'm honest. It was however Mark Ronson who made that a hit. She has a very unique voice, and if you listen to other upcoming talents, such as the BBC Radio 2 accliamed upcoming start Duffy, who has a similar sounding voice. If she didn't have quite so many problems she'd be a well respected talent in the current music scene, and will be looked back on in 10 or 15 years time, unlike a lot of other acts that are around at the moment.

Also, not all British people have bad teeth, and we also have flouride in our water so they are generally nice and white and healthy as well.

I ran into an URB-playing friend today at the gym...he told me his dad had recently checked into the Betty Ford Clinic ($25k!)...a certain now-dead celebrity's son was a "housemate". The celeb's son was evetually given das boot 'cause whilst in the clinic, he got 3 others hooked on heroin. Nice, huh?
This is why I don't dislike the music but abhor the "pushing" upon the public; Winehouse and her problems.
It seems that her problems are a bigger story than any talent she may (if sober) have. I am bored with the junkie chic. I am even more bored and disdainful of it being the only story.
She's signed so she must know more than me.
