I think it'd be more likely to get your ass up to +4dBu or so so it's able to drive a power amp, and provide some tone shaping. The compressor on that ass preamp has a clicky artifact that you may not enjoy.

I actually use a BBE 383 as my backup amp (with a Carvin power amp) so...no. It sounds very good actually. The Compressor is kinda useless but the rest is pretty solid. Provides balanced and unbalanced out at high enough level to drive a variety of power amps, has fairly flexible eq.

For the price (I paid 75 bucks or so shipped) it gets the job done and then some.

i normally like it passive, sounds better IMO.
dont want to cut through too much, to aggressive.
smoother is better.
