Yeah, I've become slightly obsessed with this metronome thing for a variety of reasons. Bottom line is I really am curious now as to whether or not working with a metronome REALLY helps people with their timing, and I've come up with an experiment that will help people here who have timing issues, and possibly prove the usefulness (or lack of) regarding metronomes.
Before telling what I'm looking for in volunteers, I'd like to say I welcome all ideas to help this experiment work more smoothly. I'm open to suggestion.
What I'd like is to get as many players as possible to work with me following some simple instructions and exercises to help better their sense of time.
To see if you'd make a good volunteer candidate, do this:
First, pick up your bass. It doesn't need to be plugged in. You can actually just tap it out on a desk too if your bass isn't around.
Now tap out 16th notes to this click. It's fine to take some time to get it right (about a minute or so), but once you do, maintain those 16th for 2 minutes:
If you struggle considerably, you're a good candidate for the experiment. Please volunteer.
I'll come up with the exercise routine over the next week or so, if this thread doesn't fall flat on it's face and I get enough volunteers.
In the meantime, everyone else is welcome to chime in. You can brag too if ya did the exercise with no problem at all

Listened for 3 or 4 beats and played- by the second beat had it dialed in.
