Yes- the Dan Armstrong side. Of course, results will vary depending on bass, rig, etc but Levin takes one on practically every session he goes to, so just think about his fretless sound and you have a good idea of it's potential if in the right hands.

Very nice- I am very familiar with the Norse Mythos. I would love to see mother of pearl inlays of Hugin and Munin in the body, ala a PRS Dragon.

No shots of the Tat- but it was based on a pendant that a visiting friend from Sweden gave me.

Pete Skjold is, well, a Viking, by ancestry, so I thought it would be cool. Plus, I am a bit of a history buff and quite intrigued by the Norse in general, so it worked for me, too. I thought of a number of different symbols, and those two just make the most sense to me.

You can't really tell from the photos, but those inlays are in gold pearl. The fingerboard is ebony.

Back to the AnalogMan, it is nice to have the "deep" option, as you in essence get three different chorus voicings (regular, deep, and both). All three are potentially usable, though I normally use just the deep setting.

Just a quick note in my defence.

I think there has been a lot of a of confusion over who I am and what I do. So I have posted TaySte a VT1 Bass pedal for him to try and then pass it onto a few other guys on BW, some of which are existing users. They will all generate reviews and sound clips.

TaySte and I seem to be getting on a lot better now and he has made some very useful comments on a blender pedal idea I have.

I am a one man band that makes pedals for a hobby, it started last year when I was recovering from a cancer operation and going thou the treatment, this was my form of basket weaving! The pedals have really taken off and I build about as many as I can and want to do. There is very little money in it and it is not a ebay scam, I consider it a paying hobby. I have been designing electronics for 30 years and playing guitar for 35. I build custom valve amps and the Torres super boxer sold in the UK is my design.

In a way they have served a perpose now and helped me in a differcult time, I may stop soon anyway or at least cut back as I say I am not in it for the money. I guess I would like to be know and one remembered for doing something a little different in the music industry.

I know a few of you don't believe that they work and the valve does not generate the distortion I can understand that so I will share a few technical things with you. The softclipping (distortion) is generated by the valve because the plate voltage is very low, 24V instead of 160V+ that you would normally see in a valve amp. It's the same effect but without the wattage not the gain.

There have been other pedals in the past that do this but most modern versions use a higher plate voltage and that's why there is a lot of electronics inside them, its the switch mode power supply that boosts the mains or 12v to the required higher plate. I think you guys may have been looking at older pictures or earlier pedals as the new HI-plate ones have a fair bit of electronics, you won't have see the circuit diagrams as they have never left the house.

The problem with running at high plate voltages is heat as the current flowing across the plates is much higher and that's why they need vents, once again its' watts. The Valvetone current is in uA and there the wattage is very low so I don't need vents, but I may add them anyway just for effect but I worry about you guys spilling your beer into it!

The heater of the valve is want daws most of the current and there is some heat there.

Anyway I hope this helps and you now understand a little better where I am coming from. TaySte will be trying the VT1 soon and I trust his review will be fair but for balance it will also be posted onto others. Tone is a subjective thing anyway and there will always be some who will love what I do and some that hate it, I am happy with that as if we all sounded the same that would just be boring!

This is true I do have one in my possession as of this morning, but I'm at work and the pedal isn't so before sunday there will be an initial review.

I agree there has been some confusion over these pedals, I still say get the Analogman Chorus as they are amazing (like all analogman stuff), I withhold judgement on the DHA as of yet (But this is an old thread so I'm sure you've already bought something).

But trust me Dave has not bought me off or anything, and he understands that this review is impartial. All I can say is so far the guy has sent me a pedal because I've said there crap, so he obviously stands by his products and now with him giving detailed reasons that quell most of my problems with the pedal (circuity, vents and so on) I will be judging this like I judge every pedal, so build and sound quality (mainly sound quality).

Also Dave I will be getting in touch over various other ideas you might be interested in.

I was really dissapointed in the $99 Presonus mic pre. It does give you a bit of tube-like harmonics when run 'clean' (along with being quite noisy), but if you DO actually run the gain up to clipping, it exhibits an extremely harsh, violent, solid-state-like crackle!

When it comes to 'simple' circuit boards, though - The 'Fender' preamp circuit Does have a pretty low component-count, especially if you leave-out the tone stack! Have you seen the inside of the Alembic pre? ..But like I was saying before: it's those high-voltage supplies that are expensive to deal with!

Hi Joe,

You can run valve plate voltages as low as 12V I have found, remember that they used to have 12V car valve radios. I use 24V as it gives a marked increase in output level.

I don't use any neg feedback in my design and the only soild state is in the form of an op-amp which can be switched in or out and is just the output stage. I agree the Nf would kill the valve tone if you did what you say.

The Purist versions don't have op-amps and are totally a valve signal path as are all the versions if you switch out the boost.

The circuit is simple but it's all in the bias of valve stages because of the low plate voltage and it uses component values you would not normally expect to see.

I did design and build a high voltage version but I had to use so much HF to stop it from motorboating due to the silly amounts of gain generated that it compressed the bandwidth and sound very narrow. My pedals sound fat and this is helped by having a lower plate voltage.
