Anchor technique question

I've been an anchor player since day one. My anchor point often changes. Depending on the sound I want, I move back toward the bridge (floating, really) and forward to above the neck pickup (anchoring on the side of the neck). I also move my whole hand (floating again) when I'm playing a part with a ringing open D while changing notes on the G string, for example.

When I was teaching, usually started with the floating technique. I had many more advanced students, however, who were already adept with the anchor.
