To each his own obvioulsy, but my experience is different since I saw them live. In theory it's not my cup of tea, but I had the chance to see them live and it was the greatest show I've seen in a looonnng time. So in my case, not only the main course, but one of the most delicious meals I've had since I was young.

Like you and @Polfuste, I wonder how long will they last? Will they be able to renew their music?
Well, it's totally up to them — maybe they don't want to renew their style, maybe we'll forget them just as quickly as the hype took off. Time will tell.

I'm interested somebody brought this up. I've tried noodling around in quarter-step intervals on fretless and it's surprisingly difficult. When playing fretless regularly there's a point where you've internalized the spacing between stops, and can even compensate on the fly when playing along with others who are off-key, but adapting that muscle memory for an extra interval between each standard interval just fries my brain. If I'm not focusing hard it makes me stop notes randomly on the fingerboard as if I'm an absolute beginner again.

I've been watching and/or listening to a lot of stuff they've been involved with in the past and I would find it hard to believe they wouldn't be able to renew their music to maintain what they've got going. They are seriously versatile and amazing musicians. At least for what I like to listen to.

Agreed. But you know how the music business is…people think you can't do things they never heard you do until they hear you do it.

I kinda feel bad that this project has gone viral because I'm loving all their previous stuff so much more than AdP.

This is like French Canadia Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson on steroids. I've listened to this entire set like 3 times a day for the last week.


I don't want them to abandon or move away from this kind of music.

I better rip this from YouTube sooner than later before it disappears...

Ha! I knew they had to be readers!!!

Enjoyed it, really enjoyed the violin. Khn seems a little buried in this band, though. I'd like to see him lead a band of this nature.

Thanks much for posting this. I understood some of the rhythmic sorcery based on other videos I've watched (and my own ear, to a limited extent), but this analysis really opened my eyes to how clever these compositions are. The graphics were super helpful.

Apart from learning about some of the specific rhythmic "tricks" they use, I especially love the fact that, at the end of the day, they all function in the service of the age-old principle of tension-and-release.

Estimate for the crowd that attended their Montreal show for the jazz festival range from 50 000 to 70 000 people. They apparently broke the record previously held by none other than Stevie Wonder.

If you would have told me a month ago that they would bring in this kind of crowd, I would have said you are out of your mind.

Good for them.

Yep, astounding. I'm guessing sociologist will have a field day analyzing this phenomenon.
As to venturing a guess to their longevity, my crystal ball broke about a decade ago as far as predicting what will be popular, or all the nonsense in the stock market for that matter, so I'm not doing that. but if I had no prior knowledge of them prior to this, I'd be inclined to believe that they truly are aliens :laugh:
