When Paul Reubens was among us, he had a rule: If somebody requested an interview with Paul Reubens, he would participate as himself, no problems. But if somebody requested an interview with Pee Wee Herman, he would go as Pee Wee Herman, in costume and in character, and he would not break character no matter how much the interviewer might beg to talk with Reubens.

AdP are more or less the same, as far as I can tell. The world wants to talk to Angine de Poitrine, and maybe so far nobody's bothered to request an interview with Mackin & Thiebeault.

That's a darn great sound he's got. He doesn't use distortion or any other effects I could hear, though I think he's using an amp sim. It also sounds to me like he uses rounds and doesn't change his strings much. Instead of clang, he's got more of a thunk with just a hint of clang. Can't tell what pickup he uses but it looks like an EMG. Maybe one of those Geezers that doesn't have pole pieces? But that's just a guess.

Anyway, what do you all think of it?

It's my current tone inspiration. As I mentioned earlier, I lowered my strings, especially the B, since listening to him.

He has low action? I didn't hear much fret rattle out of him, but then it tends to get buried anyway. I love low action and can't play without it anymore. Well I could, but I see no reason to do it

According to the luthier who built the bass the pick up came from a cheap short scale bass.
It's a part bass made from cheap parts. Necks are warmoth. Not sure about the body.

I heard that a big company is building KHN a new instrument. I can't wait to see it and see which company it is

To me, the most important part -- or at least, the most pressing question when it comes to equipment -- isn't about the bass. (Or even about the microtonal fingerboards.)
I'm just dying to know what make/model of looper (loopers?) he's using!

(Given their French-Canadian origins, my guess is it's a Glou-Glou Loupé -- or two -- but I haven't seen or heard anything to suggests that's anything but a WAG.)

I've read in a couple of places that it's a Boss RC-600 Loop Station ...it's big ol red box in the clip taking up half his pedalboard

Fair enough. I used to have a couple SX basses that had great sounding P pickups so why not when it sounds like that?

His current bass sounds perfect as is, I don't care if the luthier is unknown, if he used a cheap pickup and a warmoth neck.

Sure, but even Brian May had backups in case the Red Special took a dump once he could afford it. If I were Khn, I'd be getting 4 or 5 more. I'd be looking into ways to make them lighter, too. Some shows look like he's struggling by the end.

Odd meters, microtonal with strange harmonies, yet it groove like nobody's business so when you start, you cannot stop listening. Oh, and impressive musicianship from both of them. I like it.

The costumes don't bother me at all; in fact just contribute to the What The Fork???!!! factor. I'm a pretty musically conservative old fart, and I love the schmidt out of this!

I'm 61, I generally think music died in 1979 shortly after the dire Straits album, yet I love this.

I was wondering how far into this thread I'd have to go before THAT TONE was brought up. I'm digging the whole thing, but the bass tone is killer. I love the cut and grunt of it.

I've seen that they are on the bill with multiple bands at some festivals etc... . I can imagine some of the discussion that has to take place as to where to place AdP in the lineup with more conventional acts.....or if some tribute like Roadies of the D would even pair up. I think AdP is now in a different sphere, artistically and in popularity, than many bands like that. Major venues here in the US are selling out months in advance.
