View attachment 3193701 Yess! What's up with this 'Wagon Wheel'??
I played with a blues-rock band at a blues club on Long Island just last week and some drunks were yelling and BEGGING for Wagon Wheel, Tennesee Whiskey...
Call me ignorant, but is this Wagon Wheel the same tune that Sonny Rollins covered in his Way Out West album?
Just checked out the Old Crow Medicine show version of Wagon Wheel on YouTube (great video!), no wonder drunks request that tune! Ultimate drunken sing-along tune, obviously a real evergreen.
Wouldn't that be nice? So few calls for jazz.View attachment 3193701 Yess! What's up with this 'Wagon Wheel'??

Would much rather hear Sonny Rollins play Wagon Wheel, than some drunk spit & sing it.Yeah for those of you wondering about wagon wheel, that's why people know it and love it. The old crow medicine show version was immensely popular amongst young bluegrass/folk fans a few years ago. Then, if you're not aware, Darius "hootie" Ruckert did a pretty much note for note copy of that version, so pop country people know it too.
Drunk people love songs they can sing along to, and Tennessee whiskey and wagon wheel are usually the songs they can think of on the spot. I'm surprised we dont get requests for take me home, country roads.

1. Strangely timed racist commentary (strange as far as I'm unmistakably black and these people seem to like me)
2. "Do you know this one; it goes like do do dooo de do de do."

I'm not familiar with helpful drunks. I must be playing the wrong places.Insisting on helping with load out. No, dude, you're hardly able to keep your beer in hand. I'm not about to trust you with my amp!
He was a friend of the band, but not to me. I'd never met him prior to that gig.I'm not familiar with helpful drunks. I must be playing the wrong places.
