Ya know, I have an old black SX P bass I'm trying to fix up. I hadn't considered tort much because I think black w/ tort looks sharper with a rosewood fingerboard and mine's maple.

I was thinking of different options to refinish the bass entirely, but after seeing this pic, I think I'm sold on keeping it black, finding a reddish tort guard, and (sorry to be such a copycat) slapping in a cream pup cover.

That is just hotness.

Thanks man! Sold that bass long ago so have at it. It was an E Serial MIJ Fender I picked up for 100 bucks (and sold for quite a profit). The tort guard was from guitarfetish.com if you are interested in picking up a cheap option. I never even changed the pickup on it--it's probably the only bass I regret selling. I can't remember what I used the money for, because I sure don't have it now!

Just looked in the picture, and I have NONE of those basses any more.
