Another Cool Sandberg Demo

...

With that pickup location, it almost seems like Sandberg's version of an L-1000. I LOVE that dudes playing in both of the videos you posted!

I think that Sandberg’s pickup is about .5” closer to the bridge than a L-1000, maybe .75” closer. The tone is definitely not L-1000, but Stingray.

Good demo Doc of the VM-5. Demo of the California Central blew me away! Would be great to put my hands on one to check out ergonomics and playability. Sonically I loved the Ray tone! If I still lived in Florida I would be making my way to Bass Central to demo as I used to in the past. Thanks for posting Doc!
Ergonomics and playability are very reminiscent of Music Man Stingrays, in my opinion. They're fantastic instruments and I would be hard pressed to have to choose either my VM or EBMM if I could only keep one.

@lowdownthump do you agree with the Music Man comparison?

I do agree 110%. Specifically the StingRay Specials. That is probably why I favor them so much. They fit me like a glove . Build quality is excellent on both. I consider both Ernie Ball MusicMan USA and Sandberg Germany to be the top of so called factory builds. As you’ve said yourself …. Boutique Quality.

I went to Bass Central to purchase a 2nd StingRay Special and came home with the Sandberg Ida 5 instead. I wouldn’t want to be without either one of them.

I posted about this a couple weeks ago, but of course it got no traction for obvious reasons.

Sandberg California Central

But you can bet the house that the 5-string will have 19mm spacing (!). But a turn off might be the 35” scale (according to the Sandberg configurator)…

It won’t turn me off. I really like 35” scale.

I'm lucky enough to have 2 VM5s. Got them both within the last year or so. I've gotta tell you guys, I've never bonded with basses as quickly as I've bonded with these 2. At least 1, if not both, will go to EVERY gig I play from here on out. Warwick craftsmanship, applied to the Fender or Musicman vibe. I did some customization on them to make them look like old Musicman Sabres. The white one was originally all tort, and the black one was originally all black. Put metal control plates on both, bought a Pearl PG from Sandberg, and switched some parts around.
