I was considering this .. til the end..

Bass Player Needed
Newly forming rock band is looking for a bass player. Three veteran musicians (drums, guitar, singer) are putting together a rock band that plays a mix of rock music, some soft, some hard, some high energy. The idea is playing what we like until we think we have a good band to play in front of people. Being a gigging band is not the goal, the goal is to be a good band that is ready to gig. We are not in a hurry to play live so if your ambition is to get out and play we're probably not the band for you. We will probably practice about twice a month give or take, we can talk more about our process one on one if you are interested.

What we are looking for is someone that is dedicated, will do their homework and come to practice prepared. Doesn't have any addictions other than buying music equipment. Someone that isn't a dickhead rock star wanna be. Someone that has decent equipment. Singing is not required but is definitely a plus. Practice will most likely be on the weekend in Middle River. The most important thing to know is, this is all about having fun. If you shag this up by being a dick face ******* you will be fired. To put it bluntly, if you're looking on Craigslist to join a band you're not a rock star, no one gives a poopie about what you've done in the past and we're all just hobbyist looking for like minded people to play music and have fun.

seems like they've stated their 'position' fairly clearly --- might want to check it out for the personal experience thing. they might be better players and finer human beings than they are at CL ad writers, too. never know with CL.

whatever you do, good luck finding some fellow players! :thumbsup:

Yeah, no major red flags for me... it sounds like they are trying to weed out the wannabe rock stars egoists. It's a bit egotistical itself, but also clear in what they want. I'd probably check it out - my real red flag would be hearing that they only want to get a handful of songs down. For a 2x month hangout band, I'd like to see at least six new songs per rehearsal/get together. (Up to 12 or so would be fine too.) If they can't handle that pretty gentle work schedule, then it would not be for me. :)

I think a musician's 'Looking For' ad on Craigslist could be the basis of a story for a small-budget psycho-delic mystery horror film. Something like Bad Moon Rising or Evol by Sonic Youth as the sound track.

I'm imagining scenes in a dingy old and creepy lookout sound-proofed rehearsal space in a 3 story brick building along Lake Ave. just west of the Loop in Chicago back in the early to mid '90s when there were still public housing projects up the street, looooong before the gentrification. It's almost like I'd literally been there many times before. ;)

Halloween is close.

My band advertises on Craigslist and asks for cool people that want to have fun but put in effort. These guys want that as well, but emphasize NOT wanting a dickhead. That should be a given so putting that on blast is a bit of a red flag. Have they been burned? Or are they pot heads who dont want to be held accountable to be gig ready for 6 months? I auditioned for a band that said they wanted to gig but it was apparent they just wanted to jam. These guys spell that out pretty clearly. Talk to them to see if they are people you want to hang with. And remember, don't be a dickhead…

I dunno, I generally take all of the CL posts as somewhat humorous by design or intentionally… most are trying to stand out from others so folks will just read the ad and maybe reach out. And it sounds like want someone that shows up prepared and maybe they had a "personality" that they had to deal with in the past. :)
