Another Day, Another GAS Thread

I have a Fender Mustang PJ on order from a local brick & mortar store that I plan to pick up at the end of the month. It is white with a mint pickguard. I have played these a ton at GC, so I know I will like it.

Recently, I asked a friend about a cool bass, and made arrangements to buy it later this Spring. A week or so later, it became clear that I need to spend some real dollars on our house, so I would have to the stop gear purchases for the foreseeable future (year) with the new Mustang. Regrettably, I had to contact him and tell him I could not go through with my plans. Even before that call, I took my Forum V to service and rehearsal, and it was like a slap in the face! This bass is perfect for the active, modern sound when I want it! I had not played it for so long, I forgot what it could do. I certainly would have enjoyed that other bass, but I certainly did not need it, and I certainly would feel like an idiot if I had to sell off cool basses I already own because I needed to recoup money for home maintenance.

This was probably TMI, but I have gotten better about not churning through so many basses, but I was about to get carried away, and I am glad I caught myself!

Ha Doc I love it. I put myself on a "April fool's" bass buying moritorium nothing bass for one year. Not before I pulled the trigger on a really nice Peavey Foundation S, My favorite PJ ever though.
I'm going to be satisfied until April 2018.

I still might sell some , I'm trying to downsize.

The main thing is that you have plan. Sticking to it is always the challenge.

I haven't purchased a bass in a year. I'm right up there with you, Doc -- grateful for what I have. I still get GAS pangs, but nothing undefeatable. I made sure to focus on technique, and every time I play that investment pays me back. Woohoo

That's the best attitude, focus on getting better, not buying toys.

A general guideline is to have at least 3 months worth of emergency cash in the bank before spending.
Preferably 6 mos.., but at least 3.

I was not talking about reserves. Just extra money that can be spend on useful or fun things.

I have definitely slowed down my buying. Much of what is driving that is lack of space. My GAS is strong as ever!

In fact come to think of it I have 4 basses coming to me this week. But one was a trade and another a loaner.

The two EBMM USA SUBs I just bought from @Bass-only om the other hand...

Lack of space a real buzz kill. That is why I do not see me having more basses than I do now w because something thing needs to go to make space for something new.

I think if you plan to refrain from buying a bass for a year, the only way you can be successful is to also stay off the forums for a year.

You'd be proud, Dr. C... I've been able to hold off on a '62 AVRI Jazz, due to monies allocated for three new pedals and a USED Neo 212 II...

... OK, probably didn't need the pedals, but the Neo was used... maybe, a little proud? On my way to counseling...

Yeah .. I must admit I'm guilty of the whole gassing thing!! almost like an adiction!!
I mean if you check out my basses on my profile you'll wonder what else can I possibly need! Everything from a vintage fender P Bass ( 71) to a couple of Foderas ! Yet I'm recently gassing for another 5 string Bass! Thanks to Your thread I went back and picked one of the foderas 5 & it made me realize I don't need another 5 string as well!! Thanks!
