Another Dumb Question - Fieldy (sp?)

I didn't mean for this to become a bashing session on this Fieldy person, I just wasn't sure who they were or what the humor was all about. I think I get it now.

Any time that name is mentioned around here, people break out the Molotovs and gasoline...

Personally I don't have a problem with his playing, just his attitude. *FWOOOOOSSSHH*

I'm not a Fieldy fan, but I don't hate him either. If he inspired some kids to at least PICK UP a bass, then I'm happy. Usually when they do pick it up, they find out that his playing is crap, and aspire to be a SERIOUS bassist.

That's pretty much the way I feel. When I was in high school it was Nirvana and then Green Day that made me want to be in band.

Fieldy can actually play. HE CAN!!! Listen to some of his solo rap stuff(filedy's dreams). Hes a HORRIBLE GOD AWFUL SHOULD-BE-BANNED-FROM-RAPPING-FOR-LIFE RAPPER but he actually plays bass in the traditional fashion, and its not that bad.

Well, that's not necessarily true...search for the "fieldy's dreams" thread somewhere around here.....it's....somewhere.... :D

Does the search function not work? There is plenty of info out there about Fieldy if you SEARCH for it. The title of your thread sums it up. I feel like this thread was started to add fuel to the Fieldy fire and should probably be closed. HMMM... just who is this Fieldy guy, I mean, bassist...I'm not sure....yeah, whatever Drummer Dude. Why does everyone put up with this? Have you not read any of the other volatile threads about him already?

Use logic

I am left handed, and agree that there should be no left handed basses. I find that using my strong hand on the strings has given me better technique, and the fingers on my right hand are more coordinated (this may be a fluke), so I once again boost my technique. But you have to notice that people like Paul McCartny are left handed and show it

for a good laugh i highly reccomend going to korns offical board and reading what they think of fieldy.....

"fieldy cant play bass? wrong. he does, and he does well. but he plays differently.

if you want the simple humming bass sound like alot of "normal" bass players, then fine, but what he also does is create a sound different, that makes korn so distinctive."

haha man that one gets me every time

Bass is bass.

Usually, but in Korn's instance, the guitars were tuned so low that the guitars became bass, and the bass itself had nowhere to go but "clickety-clack". When Korn first came out, I loved them. I thought they were the most innovative sounding thing to come out in ages, and they were. They really were. That's why we have all these downtuned copycats trying to do what they did. Even today, bands are still trying to do what that first album did, and those of us who moved on will never be able to forgive Korn for that, whether it was their fault or not. I think that's why we have Korn trying very hard not to be Korn these days.

And you know... It doesn't matter to me whether the guy can play his bass or not. He's got a bass. He's in a band. So far, he's ahead of me by at least a quarter-mile. And he's been playing a lot longer than I have, too. So how do I know the fella doesn't hole up in his little bedroom and play "Donna Lee" and "Teentown" all day? Do you realize what it would do to his "image" if he went and got all technical and lost his clicky-click? All us old farts :p would begin to respect him (or maybe not...take your pick) and then the kids wouldn't buy up his crap like candy laced with speed.

I dunno. It's ten a.m. where I'm at and I haven't slept for a couple of days. Maybe that's where all that came from.

:D
