Considering checking this one out, claims it is an 84 p bass judging by the serial number, but it does not look right, does not say where it was made on the headstock, decal looks wrong, etc. thoughts?

Stay away. Looks like bad news. It may be a Squier of some sort, but that's no Fender neck.

The headstock looks like it was modeled from a poor quality, low resolution, blurry pic of a Fender that was photographed from an oblique angle.

Bridge location is wrong...too far forward. I had an '85 back from '85 to 2000. It was my go to. That one there is not even close to convincing.

That looks like the rare "Picasso Basses" that Fender made in the mid-eighties as a precursor to the "boner bass." Everything was totally off proportion about them as a tribute to the late master of cubism, but they sound and play great. Very tough to find, and $400 is a steal for one in that condition!
