I like the Chili Peppers and all, but this is the worst Fender demo video. Ever. Who knows what the bass even sounds like? It’s like Flea and a camera man drove out into the hills behind LA, dropped some acid and came back with this.
Either he has never known music theory or has forgotten everything, because his playing there is so rudamental and basically just random off key notes!
I used to love the RHCP and would even go as far to say that Flea's downward slapping technique has heavily influenced mine, but W.T.F. is this?
A grown man wearing an orange jump suit with dyed yellow hair on a mountain top jumping around whilst badly running through random pentatonic 'scales' with a fuzz pedal on, kinda leaves me feeling sad.
He was soooooo much better than this.
I don't hear any bass or groove or anything other than young kids' noodling in a guit@r music store...
I know of very few people who can make soloed bass sound anything approaching good or interesting for more than 15 seconds and this 'video' certainly doesn't sell me his bass. Neither does it show what he was once capable of when at the top of his game. Very disappointing.
PS Didn't Jaco take to drawing on himself with marker pens towards the end? Maybe drawing on our faces with colouring crayons is the new sign of musical finality!

Big fan of Flea, always have been. But damn, this is just.....bad.

Same here! I was just pricing bass bodies on Warmoth's website last night to build one! Let me know if you start one, I'd like to compare builds...I have an EMG MM pickup thats just dying to be installed!
They need to re-shoot this. Flea can actually demo the bass with Chad laying down a basic rhythm. Very dissapointed.
Didn't Fender recently come out with a Flea bass, shell pink/road worn jazz bass? Confused why they felt the need to release this one as well.
Not sure what to say about that. I like Flea’s energy.
There is another YT vid of this bass by a guy in a store thats worth viewing. I didnt really care for the sound in general. Sounds sort of gritty with no mids. I wont bash Fender for trying something new though. Im glad they did this and others seem interested in getting one so that’s cool.

It's like one of those "shreds" videos that are so popular on youtube. I'll bet Flea's handlers were telling him how brilliant it is while he was making it though.

He might of set aside 10 to 20 minutes daily for practice. ... Just saying.

I find the marking up of his face unsettling given the orange jumpsuit and the desert location. Weird associations. But regardless, it had me thinking that Fender marketing is thinking that they aren't selling the bass as much as Flea's persona. That is, there are a million basses to buy, but it's Flea's endorsement which sets it apart so let's make it about manic craziness and attitude over music. The sad part is, they may be right in their approach to what drives sales. I still think it's a beautiful bass.
