Another Flea Active Jazz Video

For the past 25+ years, Flea has ridden his celebrity on "I'm a wacky guy with fill-in-the-blank-colored hair who likes to scream, say crazy stuff and play in a band with a long, semi-catchy name that used to do funky stuff onstage and occasionally (but more in the past than the present), we play decent music even though our frontman speaks more than he sings."

Even though RHCP hasn't done anything worthwhile in many moons, Flea has carved out a niche for himself and everyone lets him slide... as if to always say, "Oh, that Flea... he's a HOOT!!!"

Flea is probably the #1 reason we all have had to endure teenage toolboxes slapping really poorly in music stores for the last three decades. And this is the main reason why Fender is doing what they're doing -- to sell instruments to those types of people.

Welp... I call B.S. on Flea... and that horrible "demo video" is another reason why that clown isn't on any of my inspiration lists and never will be.

And here's another...

So... MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!!! Except you, Flea who should get coal in your "sock" the rest of your days. :smug:

well said my friend well said

I like the Chili Peppers and all, but this is the worst Fender demo video. Ever. Who knows what the bass even sounds like? It’s like Flea and a camera man drove out into the hills behind LA, dropped some acid and came back with this.

Fender marketing dept is selling "Flee-persona" - regardless of what he has in his hands or what he's doing with it. Fender sez' "buy our bass because Flee stands for it" (on top of a hill with a generator and big amp) :)

It's not meant to be a demo of the bass. It's an ad for Fender. Flea being Flea. Did you all forget that his 60s Flea Jazz Bass also featured similar style video that wasn't a demo? A lot of Flea bashing on this thread, but he's undeniably one of the most influential bass players, and his style is very recognizable. Gotta love the "holier than thou" attitude here. Oh and that other video where the bass is supposedly demoed? That video sucks balls. Horrible clipping and horrible job on the demo.

Seriously people, get a grip. This was not meant to be your typical demo where Flea will sit down and go through all the settings with the exact technique that you'd want. You'll get those demos too, I'm sure. Merry Christmas.

dissonant... I get it. It's a bit of art. Art for arts sake. Don't have to give a reason why, it just exists. It's irrelevant whether someone likes or dislikes it in the grand scheme of things. He made it, it exists.

Interesting the background is a dry scrubby bush scene, and the foreground is a person in an orange jumpsuit.

Unfortunate in this case that a thing is not exempt from assessment because it may narrowly qualify as art.

he has pretty horrible technique but if you deny how important he is to our history you're just a dolt. Plus he has a few incredibly well thought out and funky melodic lines (around the world, californication, under the bridge, give it away, etc)

not really a fan though

I love Flea. I think he's brilliant but there's no brilliance here. He's playing fuzzy, nonsensical, guitar center wankery, IMO.

Not sure what to say about that.

Worse than a Gene Simmons bass solo.

Pretty awful.

Two things:

1. I’m totally fine with an MM pickup on a jazz body, but the blank space on the front side bothers me. If I were designing, I might add a single coil in the front just to balance the look, even if I didn’t plan to use it much.

2. I saw an article about this bass where the guy claimed that the drive was coming right out of the preamp, which I think is an Aguilar OPB-1. Is that right? Can you overdrive a pickup signal with a typical onboard preamp?
