The eminence designs are a very good place to start for a first build. For your marital situation: for home use the right, efficient 1*10 might be just fine.
From personal experience: that Fdeck design is really usefull and the read alone well teach you a lot about bass cab design. Also there is a reason why the deltalite 2512 ii is recommended by a lot of people in this thread. It sounds good, and ticks a lot of technical boxes. That said, you cannot go wrong with the eminence beta15 and the eminence plans.

If you get enjoyment out of building a cabinet, then by all means go ahead. However, if you are mostly looking for an economical means to have an 'okay' speaker to play bass through, you'll have greater success buying used. I built plenty of TL cabinets back in the day. A while ago I had thought I would like to build a fEARful 12/6. I was looking at roughly $500 in materials. Then one day looking at Craigslist, I spotted an LDS cabinet in perfect condition with a cover that was very close to a fEARful 15/6/1 with all of the same drivers,... for $300.

Boundary Effect has a good point, bass cabs are going begging these days. Buying a used cab is probably the shortest route to success. I sold my last 2-15 for $125, but I’d have gone lower just to get it out of the house.

The coffee house 1-10 mentioned above is very cool, especially if you can whip up the box at home.

If it’s the DIY itch that needs scratching, that’s another thing entirely.

Speaker Hardware is a great source for parts and plans, Parts Express is another.

The TL 606 form is your basic, works with a bunch drivers, 1-15 cab. As drawn, the plans are outdated as far as construction and materials.
You can simplify that build with better joinery and modern adhesives. Pl premium glue and a biscuit jointer or screws for butt joints.

I’d suggest upping the budget and jumping straight to a fEarful 12/6 with the alpha 6 mid. Most of the budget will be invested in the 3012LF and the alpha 6. The crossover costs are minimal. If you have 3/4 ply at hand, go for it. If you want to buy the 1/2” Baltic birch, a 5’x5’ sheet is plenty and should be around $40.

I pulled my last fEarful 12/6 cube together for about $300. One handle on top is plenty. Cost depends on how much you want to dress it up. Duratex is a great option for finish, not stinky, cleans up with soap and water, easy to apply, and a quart goes a long way.

Wow! I wish the used market around here had deals like that. Good luck finding anything like that for cabs around here which is...Peavey Heaven.

I’ll someday wind up building a fEARful because tbh I don’t believe I’ll find a used one around here and other premium used cabs are scarce too.

Prices on amps have probably never been better for what we’re getting but otoh imo cab prices have gotten obscene. C$1k+ for a single speaker cab? Maybe L&M’s markup here is insane, idk. It really annoys me how at the consumer level we here in Canada don’t really benefit from so-called “free trade”. If you take whatever an item goes for in the US and convert for currency and transport it’s still usually much higher than it should be but hey, isn’t unbridled capitalism wonderful?

Not much better out here, at least new. I REALLY lucked out in getting an old traynor 115 for about the cost of the eminence legend they put into it. Didn't tell the other guy, either.

30 something pounds. Depends on the type of plywood you use. Baltic birch is preferred by most as it's very dense, void free and resists cupping. It's also heavier than fir and a lot heavier than spruce.
