Double Bass another "identify this bass" thread

Not clueless at all. The feet got turned during an adjustment and hasn't turned them around yet. As for dampits.....in the south you need them.

I don't know of anywhere that you "need" to subject a bass to potential damage.

Search dampits on this forum, you'll find a wealth of information on why not to use them, and why they're a waste of money.

Well, time spent at something guarantees neither proficiency nor success. Your original post indicates that you are about to buy the bass but are unsure whether it is a ply bass:

Okay, I've been involved with DBs for about 40 years. To this day, I would consult a luthier before purchasing just about any DB. I also value and appreciate input from the knowledgeable folks here. This is a discussion forum and we often go beyond the specific questions asked. Usually, it's appreciated. If and when it's not, that can be conveyed without brushing off those who offer the additional information.

I get it. All you wanted was help with an identification. You got that. MIKMAN gave you some quite definitive information. I wish you well with your potential purchase.

There was no attitude implied, so if I came off that way I apologize. I also wasn't asking or was I unsure if it was a ply bass, only that I've never seen an old ply with these tuners. The edges are a little beat, it has had neck repair in the past and the f hole is sinking a bit. I had a local luthier check it out and it's structurally sound. Because I've never bought an old ply, I'm not sure how much to pay. Does anyone have an idea of a fair value?
