Another Racism Thread

Definitely not a race thing. It seems that many inner city folks (whatever race) who have the chance to rent or buy in a nice neighborhood, think it's ok to continue to exhibit the same inner city behaviors!

+1

I had to move out of my big, ranch-style suburban place in Virginia Beach, near the beach, a year or so ago because my landlord was having troubles and needed the house. She gave me plenty of notice, no complaints, these things happen.

There was a lot of drama with roommates in the place that I moved into following that, so I have since moved on a third time into my own place.

I now live in a pretty "ghetto" section of Norfolk - the saving grace for me is that my little area is populated with mostly older retiree folks, and is left alone most of the time. I'm on the neighborhood watch and on good terms with virtually all of the people that live around me, save the people that rent the other half of my duplex.

My neighbors are about as ghetto as you can get. Just the one guy is actually on the lease, but he lives there with his girlfriend, their toddler, and his brother, supposedly to save money. I say "supposedly" because they seem to have new phones, new clothes, and new guns (which they appear to carry as a fashion accessory) on a fairly regular basis. They're outside all hours of the day, as long as it's not between 6 am to noon or so, have several (non-working, "got big plans for") cars in the driveway, a couple of pit bulls, the whole thing. They fight and scream at each other on a fairly regular basis, and when they aren't fighting they're blaring god-awful music. I am thankful, however, for the insulation in may apartment that prevents me from having to listen to it while I'm inside.

Three times in two weeks I found that I couldn't pull into the shared driveway after work, due to police blocking it for one reason or another, all of which they claim is due to someone else.

My landlord is about to give them the boot, for all the reasons above, and because they simply don't take care of the place. They leave tools and car parts laying around outside while food wrappers and empty cigarette packs float around the yard in the wind. Even better, the posts that hold the railing up outside the house (it's a duplex) are gradually disappearing as they're broken. He has mentioned these issues to them a few times, and they tell him they're going to take care of it. He's a pretty easy-going guy, so he doesn't press it (like I would). When he's not around, they joke and laugh, "This place is a dump anyway, who cares if there's some trash floating around, or some posts missing?" I can only imagine what the inside looks like.

Yup, the ghetto.

Did I mention they're white?

TL;DR: I have some first-hand experience with what DWBass here is saying, and found it to be very true.
