Another "Which Audio Interface?" Thread

My third-generation Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 bit the dust last week, and I'm looking for a new audio interface. Here's a rundown of my situation:

• I will be using the interface to play bass along Spotify and record with Logic Pro on MacOS (USB-C)
• I only have passive basses, one of which has an unusually low output
• I use open-back headphones; on the Focusrite, the headphone output level had to be at 100% (7dBu)
• I only use two studio monitors, so I don't require more than two outputs (along with one headphone output)
• Would appreciate a mix (Input/USB) knob
• Don't need MIDI input/output or phantom power
• I'm inclined to say I only need one input, although it might be wise to get a two-input device since I've dabbled with pedals before
• Budget is about $300

I don't want to buy another Focusrite since mine broke after only three years of minimal use.

I am new to the whole recording thing but have been happy with this interface for my needs. What is nice is it has a seperate power cord so it can be used with or without the usb-c cable to power it. Keeps my Ipad pro or iphone from battery drain…

My Presonus Audiobox USB is over 10 years old and still going strong. It ticks all of your boxes and then some. I've never had to push the headphone volume above 75%.

I'm looking for USB audio interfaces for the last 6 months and came to the conclusion that 2-channel budget bus-powered usb audio interfaces are comparable from one to the other, so pick the one with the included software that best suit your needs.

Finally, I just ordered an IK Multimedia Axe I/O One (presented at NAMM 2023) for almost the same needs you have. It's relatively affordable at $129. It's bus-powered, and has 2 expression ports (for expression pedals or 2-button switches) so you can control your software with midi messages (PC and CC), without connecting a midi foot pedal, very cool.
What separate this interface from the others is the analog instrument input. This might suit your passive basses better than a regular "1M Ohms instrument input". Most demos are with electric guitars but it would apply the same with electric basses.

Later I will buy a very good audio interface that won't have to compromise on usb power delivery for when I want to record vocals, drums, etc.
