Anthony Jackson Health Status?

No. It's definitely not a hospice. It's more like a nursing home. But with more independent living. I'm trying to get an update from his manager. And asked her if she can write something for me to post on talkbass because his fans are so concerned and worried about him. I believe that they've been very secretive about Anthony's condition as per Anthony's wishes. I will update if his manager writes something to post on talkbass. I just hope he's not suffering. ‍♀️❤️

Sub'd..

Breaks my heart to read this. For me AJ is the G.O.A.T... A superlative bassist and consummate professional. Love, prayers and positive thoughts for him.

Yes Anthony Jackson is the greatest of all time when it comes to constructing and playing basslines. Others are monster soloists
or creators of music where bass is the focus, but AJ was a perfect sideman. I am looking for a miracle so he can give us some more years of music.

Well said!

AJ is the type of bassist / musician I've always aspired to be; a cat who can be dropped into any musical situation and instantly elevate it! A person whose knowledge and mastery of the instrument can take any genre to a whole other level!

Not to be a downer, but when my friend and mentor was dying and in hospice, his son was giving me updates to post for him on a page that I put together to fundraise for his medical expenses. The updates were far more hopeful than was warranted, because his son knew that he was still reading the updates and he didn't want to put everything out there to make him feel defeated in his final days. He told me as much, and told me he didn't want me posting the "real" news online.

Hoping that nothing like this is the case here. Assisted living could be a step toward getting back on his feet, and I hope that's what happens. But people keep the real information under wraps for a lot of various reasons sometime. I really wish him well.

This is the first time it has been said that he’s not doing well!! Such sad news!!

AJ Fan from NZ writes:

Is "Assisted Living" going to the Rest Home or the Hospice?

I'm not sure on how the term is used in the USA
Rest home. In America, we have three degrees of assisted patient care once a person can't take care of themselves and needs help...

Assisted living --- probably the closest to what folks in NZ would call a "rest home." Patient can do some things by themselves and doesn't need 24 hour medical supervision, but has trouble with other things such as daily getting around or cooking, and needs help with regular medical care such as taking meds, blood pressure, etc. My mother in law is at that stage.

24 hour care --- patient isn't in imminent danger of dying, but can't do much on their own at all and needs constant medical supervision and monitoring. My mother is at that stage and has been for years, unfortunately.

Hospice --- patient is in imminent danger of dying with little or no hope of recovery. Some folks can still live semi-independently while on hospice, and can sometimes stay at home. My dad was like that when he got lung cancer. My brother stayed with him to help him out with things, but until the last few days of his life, he could walk short distances, go to the bathroom on his own, and feed himself. Others may need to go into an actual hospice facility, especially if they have nobody to watch over them.

So it sounds like unless there's something he's not letting out (which is entirely possible), AJ is worse than he was for the past couple years, but isn't in imminent danger. Of course, that could change at any moment, but for now he probably just needs some assistance and some on-site medical care.

I know. But based on the email I received from his manager telling me that ”Anthonys doing well with recovery and playing and working hard to come back strong and hard,” only a week or 2 before the announcement that ”Anthonys going to assisted living, and is not doing well at all, ” which totally contradicts what his manager told me, it's apparent that they're being very secretive about his condition. I believe at Anthony's insistence. All we can do is pray for the best and hope he knows how much we love him!! Anything else, is just speculation. I'm sorry to hear about your family. Life is not easy!!! And aging is a bitch!!

It sure is! I'm 58 now and I'm definitely feeling gravity's pull and all the years I didn't take such good care of myself. Still don't but I'm getting better about it. And thank you very much.

About Cameron's post...He's an online friend and used to be a regular here, and I know he loves AJ but I don't know how well he knows him. And as proud a guy as he seems and secretive AJ seems to have been about his condition so far, Cam could be dead-on or maybe got bad info. But I certainly join everyone else in wishing him nothing but blessings and good things.
