Anthony Jackson - Simon and Garfunkel: Live in Central Park 1981

Watched the Simon and Garfunkel concert from 1981 over the weekend and I did not realize until halfway through that that was AJ on the bass and Steve Gadd on the drums....then it all made sense why the groove was so tight with a splash of pure funk thrown in when needed. Even my wife (who normally runs to another room when I play things like this) mentioned that "whoever that bass player is is grooving"....proud husband moment...haha.

But, seriously if you want to hear some great playing and of course all around great music check it out.

Don't forget Richard Tee on the keyboards; his sound was so unique. Great rhythm section... so 1981!

The whole record is amazing.
I remember very well my dad recording it when they played the show on tv, it was a major event.
We didn't have a VCR back then, he did the record on a cassette recorder and we listened to it many times in the car.
I still have that cassette actually.

We used to do that all the time when I was a kid, make audio cassette recordings of TV shows and movies! We used to listen to The Hobbit and Star Wars on long car trips, you could imagine the action in your head.

Wasn't there a 2nd drummer in Stuff? For some reason the name Chris Parker, or Chris Parkening, comes to mind. I should probably just Google it...

For that matter, wasn't Ralph Macdonald also the percussionist in Stuff? Or am I just completely incestifying my 1970s A-List studio players now?

Yes - Chris Parker was also/sometimes the 2nd drummer.
I'm not sure about Ralph McDonald.

Over the years, I keep hearing references to this concert. I am going to have listen to it soon. I think it was one of the first times that AJ’s use of notes below low E outside of R&B or Jazz/Fusion.

I read in an interview that Anthony would refer to the Gadd/Jackson/Gale/Tee/MacDonald lineup as the Pendarvis section, because Leon Pendarvis would bring them in for session work.

Yes - Chris Parker was also/sometimes the 2nd drummer.
I'm not sure about Ralph McDonald.

Chris Parker was the original drummer in Stuff for a while Chris and Steve shared duties but Chris had to bow out due to other commitments like the Brecker Brothers.

While Ralph MacDonald certainly seemed to be on everything he was not a member of Stuff and I don't recall him having a recording credit as Chris and Steve were more than capable in the drums and percussion department. .
