Anthony Jackson

Given the health issues, it might be a negative answer, but is there any plan for Anthony Jackson to tour, especially in Europe ?

Tx !

Yes - with Mike Stern this April and may - have a look on the Stern Homepage - and if they're coming to Spain - DO IT :hyper:

This time it'll be Weckl on Drums - I've seen the Line-Up with Chambers on Drums last december in Deutschland

If anyone is interested in checking out AJ's approach to soloing over a jazz standard, I found a very detailed transcription of a track he did with Buddy Rich (Billie's Bounce) at

No tab though...

That bus tape is epic. I've always wondered who the calm guy was on the tape. He's hilarious.

The guy with the accent? He's trombonist Dave Peneke from Australia.

I'm not comfortable posting a direct link to some of this stuff because of the language, but a Google (or YouTube) search that reads something like "Buddy Rich bus tape" will help you relive the laughs, and find out a little history behind it.

Correct as always, Bernie! I should also mention that he can often be seen with an Ernie Ball volume pedal. Since his FM Acoustics preamp was stolen he has changed things a bit. Nowadays he's using a front end consisting of a Millennia Media HV-3B two-channel preamp and API 550B/550H equalizers (all in a 2-space rack) feeding Meyer Sound self-powered monitors.

Last time I saw him with the Meyers at the 55 Bar, he was using a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] on top of a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

For his recent sound sample library (The Anthony Jackson Contrabass Guitar Library) however, he employed two CQ-1 monitors. There's much more info, sound samples and even Link Removed now of AJ explaining his signal chain at the sound library's website: Link Removed

I just checked this site out. What are these clips for? and how am I able to save them if possible?

Andrew
It's a digital bass sample library that you can use to create bass lines within DAW's (Digital Audio Workstations, ie Logic, ProTools, etc.). At this time, it has been released for GVI (ported by Tascam, supports both VSTi & RTAS) on Windows but for Mac, only in Logic's EXS-24 Software Sampler, which is quite limiting. Their website says that the GVI release for Mac will be released soon, thereby allowing Mac users to use the files in other samplers and DAW's, any software that supports VSTi and RTAS plugins.

On the website's demo page, they have several samples of the library but it's within an entire band session context so it's not just the bass by itself like you get in the set. It's just to give you an idea of what's possible. Some of them are pretty bad but I particularly like the track "Green Velvet."

Prices for the entire set range from $400 to $450, with the $450 premium signature set personally signed by Anthony Jackson, the DVD and laser-engraved wooden box.

Even when they finish porting for VSTi and RTAS on Mac, it's still pretty steep and I don't think I'll be throwing down very soon. However I think the idea's great and I think it's great that he did this. Now you can use AJ for your next rap or reggaeton album! :D

His tone is PSYCHEE!!

although I can only save target as when I right click those samples, but I wonder if they will still play back after I save them. Gonna give it a try. I am really glad I started this thread, I have learned SO MUCH about an AMAZING BASS PLAYER who has gone from someone I never really cared for to someone who is now A MAIN INSPIRATION to my playing!!!

He has such a high voice btw, I thought his voice would sound like his tone lol just kidding!

Some of the mp3 links are broken so that maybe why it wasn't working.

That's great that he has inspired you! His influence will always be in my playing, I can tell you that!

Yes, people comment on his voice a lot. :)
My teacher in KS, who had studied with AJ and set me up with my lesson with him, told me about the first time he met him and how he was sort of taken aback by his high voice. Regardless of the tenor of his speaking voice, we all know how well he speaks on his favored instrument!

:D

Just noticed this on the BassVI sample website practically hidden on the 'Contact' page:

‘BassVI’ will be releasing several new sample libraries in the coming months, including additional volumes to compliment The Anthony Jackson Contrabass Guitar Library. These will feature unique performances by Anthony on his Fender Bass. !!!!

 :hyper: :bassist:
