Anthony Jackson

:D

Just noticed this on the BassVI sample website practically hidden on the 'Contact' page:

‘BassVI’ will be releasing several new sample libraries in the coming months, including additional volumes to compliment The Anthony Jackson Contrabass Guitar Library. These will feature unique performances by Anthony on his Fender Bass. !!!!

 :hyper: :bassist:
Wow! Career Girl makes another appearance. Amazing!

I am not sure but I seem to remember reading somewhere that he once said that if he was ever replaced by samplers( or something on the lines or being replaced by a machine) one might as well bury him??
Please correct me if I am wrong,as I am really not sure if my memory serves me right on this one!!
-but if it does, this seems like quite a U turn...next thing we may see him endorsing ashdown or markbass soon...( insert any arbitrary company names...). :-)

If I remember correctly he used some eventide thing, well I think it was an eventide thing...when I saw him with steve khan.
Well we'll find out soon when the cd of that gig is released.

Hmmm, it may also have been Metro, and not steve khan, or both...???

^Nice Bernie!

Here's a recently-added vid of the Michel Camilo Big Band performing "Why Not!", one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite Michel Camilo albums, "One More Once." This album is highly underrated. AJ and Cliff Almond are one of the best rhythm sections ever!

Thank you Vintage...simply incredible

Michele Camillo is a genius; Anthony, well what can i say that hasnt already been said...

And hows that Cliff Almond??...all i can say is WOW

Then just when i thought things couldnt get any better...I spy LOU MARINI on first tenor!!!!!.......GO LOU!!!!!!!!!

Yep, he goes for that ultra-pure signal path so he hardly ever uses effects. The most I've personally seen in his signal chain is a volume pedal, then his preamps and EQ's. I've never seen him use the flanger (yet).

yeah, i actually meant the flanger. it can be heard on some tunes with steve khan. i've only seen him live one time and he didn't have a flanger with him. only the ernie ball volujme pedal and a radial active di (JDV48, or so).

it's really strange that people care so much about his equipment - which no doubt is really special gear - but noone knows anything about the flanger. :)

He mentioned in a BP interview from 2000 that it was a Maestro phaser.

The only effects that I've heard of AJ using was the flanger he heavily modified for 'For the Love of Money'

So even his effects are given the AJ touch. ;)
And Bernie says AJ modified it too. I don't know what he did to it but I have theories. He might've optimized it for bass and made it more stable in the lower register by only affecting the top end and also possibly extending the low-range bandwidth of the unit. Just an idea. Who knows?

Yeah, I hope I'm accurate, Brad. That's what I've gathered from the net. So I'm only as good as my info. :)

I really loved AJ's playing during that period.

Seeing this concert on laser disc back in the early 80's was a landmark moment for me in my development as a bass player.

I'd been playing for a couple of years and wasnt really hip to the possibilities of the bass and how it should be played. I was playing a lot of rock...simple stuff, because thats where i thought it was at.

Anyway, one day i entered a music store that was demoing a big sony laser disc and this same GWJnr concert was the disc that was being demoed.

I sat transfixed for the entire length of the video and then asked the store owner to replay it for me and i watched it again...all the while saying to myself "so THATS how you play the bass...so THATS how its done"

hearing Anthony play the career girl on that gig was a religious experience for me. his playing during this concert was simply stellar (as was the rest of the band...the creme de la creme of new york players at that time)

Thanks Anthony wherever you are...Ive sung your praises to all who will listen since
