Anthony Jackson

:hyper:It's not a complete album but one of the most ridiculous AJ basslines I know of is on an old Harvey Mason album called "Funk in a Mason Jar". The track with AJ on is an instrumental called "Phantazia" It's pre-Fodera so I presume it's the career girl and features the pick in a big way. That's one insane track.
Also check out Quincy Jones' "Sounds...and stuff like that"
That album is mainly Anthony and the bass playing is sick.

Oh, one more killer Anthony track to hear, this time a ballad, is "Being with you" from George Benson's "In your Eyes" He turns that simple ballad inside out. By the way, does anyone know what bass he'd be playing on that, it's a 1983 album so I'd guess it's pre-Fodera but doesn't sound like his jazz bass at all? Might it be a Smith?

By the way, as a request, has anybody got any photos of Anthony with his earlier Fodera contrabasses, I mean right back to the early eighties, twin pickup-equipped double cutaway ones? Would be much appreciated.

That's one of my favorite Anthony performances. I dig it when El Negro and Camilo are just laughing during Anthony's solo (which is a rare thing for Anthony to even do)... they are both digging it hard.

And man, is El Negro amazing or what!!!!

That clip really captures the Anthony thing to me... he uses THE WHOLE bass, and has such a precision to his execution (perfect note placement 'within the beat' to my ears), and uses dynamics so well... really something!

Is it recorded somewhere, a DVD would be ideal, but otherwise even just the audio would be great !

If you ever have a chance to see him live, don't hesitate, he puts on a KILLER show, he's SO shy too. I saw him w/ Mike Stern and Dave Weckl at Blues Alley in DC and was BLOWN away, he's got SO much expression in his playing, it's truly an inspiration to see him play. That show also gave me a new appreciation of how musical you can be on the drums, Weckl is a genius.

I used to have a bunch but I lost many of them in a HD crash.

Here are some:

^Nice Bernie!

Here's a recently-added vid of the Michel Camilo Big Band performing "Why Not!", one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite Michel Camilo albums, "One More Once." This album is highly underrated. AJ and Cliff Almond are one of the best rhythm sections ever!

I don't know how to put it other than, Anthony Jackson is a musician who is unencumbered by his instrument, it's like he has a direct wire connected from his brain to the speaker, the bass in no way hinders his creative aspiration, I can't really say that about to many guys, let alone bass players. Also it really helps when his creative aspiration sounds really good to me.
