Anthony Kiedis VS Billy Corgan

Can't stand Corgan's singing. It's cringe-worthy. Stop singing through your nose, dude. Take a lesson or two! They'll fix that right up. Really. It's easy not to sing that way!

Corgan sings like a guy who has never had any singing lessons, but who, in his head, thinks he sounds like a sensitive singer-songwriter type.

Keidis sings like a guy who has never had lessons, but who knows he's a rock band frontman and is just shouting out the tunes at high energy, like a front man is supposed to.

Is it possible to use Autotune live?

I'm not sure about Autotune, but I know a sound engineer who told me about a technique in which he would set an Eventide harmonizer a certain way, and it would help pull in harmonies that were a few cents off. I can't really remember the details of it all. :hmm:

As far as the original question, from a technical standpoint, both Kiedis and Corgan are horrible vocalists. Ironically, both of their vocals are a big part of their respective bands' sound. I still love both their bands though. And yes, Corgan is definitely an underrated guitarist. I've seen some live videos of the Pumpkins, and he can definitely play.

+1. He is also not very good as a vocalist, Fleas sings all the high parts.

Does he now? Im pretty sure Frusciante sang the highs when he was still with them.

On average, who do you think is the better lyricist?

Corgan's writing over Kiedis, I'll say Corgan is also the better singer. Kiedis lyrics can be downright awful sometimes.

Anthony's voice is so much more raw. And I've never heard anyone who sounded like him, his voice is just very refreshing, perhaps crisp sounding to me. He's great at many things as well. He can sing rap, powerful RATM style stongs (Power of Equality), soft songs, and power ballads. He can make his voice do many things. Plus, unlike many other singers of today, it's a voice he worked and trained very hard for rather than being handed it on a silver platter, which I appreciate. As for overall live entertaining ability, it's no contest.

Well, Corgan probably. But Anthony's lyrics are very original. You can recognize his lyrics out of a hundred for sure. He just kind of writes whatever random thoughts come to his head with only a thread of cohesion to them. It's pretty cool. He never takes it too seriously and understands the song is more important, which is why he focuses on the rhythm of his words over content. They're both good in their own ways.

If by 'raw' you mean 'awful', then agreed. He can't sing, he can't rap and he should stop attempting to do either for the sake of all living creatures with any degree of aural perception, sapient or otherwise. I'd say he shouldn't speak but that would just be mean. If you disagree, you are wrong, end of story.

It's a grower. If you listened to RHCP more you'd gain an appreciation for what he does. I hated it at first too.
