Anti-Smoking PSAs

Does anyone else feel these are entirely disgusting and that it is totally unfair to be subjected to these ads, especially since I have and never smoked. The worst one is the guy pulling his false teeth out.

Nope. I think they make their point very well, and if they disgust kids, that's even better.

I am much more put out by drug ads that spend 20 seconds talking about the benefits and 40 seconds telling you all the terrible things that can happen to .000000001 percent of people who take the drug. Lawyers running wild.

Well, they can't use more typical cases, like my mother in law, because she's dead.

My mom, too. She was on an O2 tank for the last year before she died (of other causes). It was the thing she most wanted to avoid, but she couldn't kick the habit until she was about 75.

It's an addiction, but addictions can be broken.

Considering that they simply don't work, I don't think I should be forced to...

Citation needed.
Alan Carr, ''Easy Way to Quit Smoking''.

paraphasing, ''smokers only smoke to get nicotine, they are fully aware of the possibilities for nasty early death but choose to carry on rather than quit because of their brainwashing that convinces them they need the next cigarette more than the possibility of lifeling cravings. Adverts only increase the schism between the truth and the brainwashing. In truth it is easy to quit when the brainwashing is removed, actual physical symptoms are no worse than a mild flu but usually less, overcome the mental issues first by reading the whole book right through''

Alan's book is an I ongoing bestseller translated into ten languages.

I hope every kid who thinks about smoking finds those commercials as disgusting as the OP does.
Kids start smoking thinking and ''knowing'' all the same things as adults. They think THEY can stop any time they like so it's ok to experiment a little. The longer it goes on the stronger the brainwashing is built up that cigarettes provide necessary benefits. See Alan Carr.

Exactly, kids know that smoking is bad for you, they do it anyway. These ads do nothing but make people ill.

Back on topic. I haven't seen too many of the anti-smoking ads, but there are alot of others that I don't need to see:

1-800-BADDRUG;
Viagra;
Male enhancment;
Catheter & incontinent supplies;

These seem to play all the time.

That's one expert's opinion. It ain't a study.

I don't think they go far enough. Not necessarily limited to smoking ads, but they need to show real wrecks with real mangled corpses, real gunshot wounds in real people. The quickest way to get people's attention is to shock them with reality.

Trying to make it palatable is why we have kids thinking they can get away with texting and adults who think gun training is a few hundred hours of "Call of Duty".

Drivers ed when I was in HS had a bunch of "training films" that were basically footage shot at actual wrecks and were not shy about crushed skulls and dismembered corpses.
My first gun lesson was a paper cup full of ketchup against a piece of 1 x 6 lumber and blasted at about 2 feet with a 20 gauge shotgun. Between the red splatter and the wood turned to mushy splinters, the message was loud and clear. This was quickly followed by the admonition that a gun is always loaded and you never point it at anything you don't intend to kill.
The most afraid I've ever been in my life was at Paris Island the day I learned only about 10 people in my entire recruit platoon had ever had an actual firearm in their hands and we were about to be issued live ammo for the first time.

Good luck hitting those of us who don't watch tv with them... lol. Just wait... once they get enough people to quit smoking, YOUR taxes will go up to make up the difference. All that money the states rake in from their taxes on each pack.... just think if all that stopped.... hmmmm.... where would they collect the money from next...
Legalized marijuana. Seems quite effective.
