I agree with Faith +1.
My understanding (probably wrong) was that Nickelback is considered sucky because of their "rockstar" mentality and "cook book" songs not so much that they sound bad. Does the same hold for Creed?
My opinion is that its just "pop hate" not so much that the music isnt good.
I thought Faith +1 had a nasty breakup due to gambling or something. Are they still touring?

I've been listening to christian rock my whole life and there are some bands here that I haven't heard of!

At one point many moons ago I loved Creed. They actually are/were a good band but I just cannot stand Scott Stapp anymore. Their instrumental parts rock pretty hard especially on Human Clay. The bass part on the bridge of What If is exceptionally badass.

August Burns Red, Impending Doom, and Sleeping Giant. Possibly Emmure, they work with the guy from sleeping giant/impending doom(who I've heard runs his own church of some sort) either way they rock! Wow creed just came on at the bar, dam you!
There's a difference between "Christian" bands that are recording music for the P&W crowd and bands composed of Christians who "crossover" between the Christian scene and the secular scene. I can't think of any of the P&W stuff I like. Crossovers, though, I'd point to a few that have already been mentioned - Switchfoot (pop/punk, kinda like Jet or maybe the All American Rejects), Flyleaf (metal), Needtobreathe (southern rock). The Cold War Kids got "outed" as a Christian band by a blogger who found they'd met up at BIOLA, but never presented themselves that way.
Sixpence None the Richer also comes to mind, not a heavy rocking band by any measure but I really love some of their stuff, especially the material on their autonym album that DIDN'T become singles (I like "Kiss Me" but get sick of hearing it in grocery store aisles).
Also U2, by the way - at least, all of them except Adam Clayton...

My wife is weighing in to suggest you might like Skillet, if you're looking more on the heavy side.
A lot of the bands listed are great to listen to, but a lot of them you will never play on a worship team in a church. One church I played at for a while used to play a lot of urban gospel stuff that I really did not enjoy. My current church plays more upbeat stuff such as Hillsong, Matt Redman,etc...
Not sure how hard the music is you're looking for.

A band that gets looked over is Day of Fire. They broke up a few years ago when they tried to break into the secular market and failed, but their first two albums (Day of Fire, Cut & Move) had some really great Christian songs, more in the line of classic rock than metal.
