Any relation...Behringer/Ashdown???

Bass V-AMP...the shamelessly ripped off from Line 6's Bass Pod product.
I bought one but it ain't quiet. I always have to leave the Gain at 12 o'clock most. Any higher, more noise enters. Also, the presense knob just adds more noise, if you don't turn it up, you can't get a good slap sound.
I'm still waiting for my Bass V-AMP to return to me. I asked Behringer to see if they can get rid of the noise.
Well that is if they can improve their cheap circuitry and materials used. Their Rack version is a safer bet.

So, you are implying that "boutique" jazz clone builders are in fact not copying Fender, because "better parts, significant independent research and development, improved labor quality" are implemented? I beg to differ.

i wasn't really implying. i pretty much flat out said it. but i was wrong. as SMASH ably corrected me, it's more of a different mousetrap than a better one. since i'm not a devotee of either the jazz bass or the many boutique renditions, i am comfortable with the misstep.

but i would like to point out the difference between the big picture and the details. i think those who look at the big picture certainly see boutique jazz bass clones (or tributes, if you prefer) as having the same bullet items and thus being equivalent. you say, "it has a jazz bass shaped body, two pickups in what i assume are the pre-CBS locations, and 3/4" string spacing on a 34" scale, so it's just like fender A." not mentioning that fender themselves have varied the theme so considerably over the years that there really isn't one standard jazz bass, that is like saying the following:

this car has a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, four doors, and a manual transmission. it is a clone (i.e. it is exactly the same as) every other car with this limited set of attributes.

this amplifier is rated for 300W. it has bass, mid, and treble knobs. on the inside are resistors, transistors, and capacitors on a circuit board. it is clearly a clone of every other amplifier with this limited set attributes.

even if they bear cosmetic resemblance, there is still ample room for variation in materials, performance, and other details to distinguish them. particularly with amplifiers, where we could increase the level of detail to include parts counts, or even the actual circuits themselves. for example, many people use "the fender tone circuit" in their instrument amplifiers and no one makes a fuss. i don't think the circuit was ever patented, but if it were, it would be in the public by now anyway. and apart from all of that, using the same circuit doesn't necessarily create the same manufacturing expense. why? because of how parts are laid out on the board and which parts are used.

and that brings me back to behringer. given the opportunity to develop their own variant -- even if it bears much resemblance of some other product -- they opt instead to copy the design down the the PCB layout of another company. whether they own ashdown or not, they do so with other companies' designs. at the very center is the degree to which they copy. they copy a lot more than just about anyone else. but that's only an issue on a moral level, and it doesn't necessarily exonerate others. i choose not to buy Behringer products, just like some may decide Harvey Citron is stealing money from poor, old FMIC. but on the legal level, what they do is criminal. so i don't support them, just like i don't support anyone else who may be conducting business to benefit some in the short term, while ignoring the long term consequences.

robb.

well it seems the only place i hear about the 'bads' of behringer is on here....ive had nothing but good experiences and everyone that i talk to that uses behringer gear thinks its great...of course they providing cheaper more affordable quality gear to people who dont bring in $75,000 a year.....but i mean, everyone copies everything, theres almost nothing origional these days, look at SX basses, even ibanez proived rickenback, fender and gibson copies back in the day...but i dont see why people disrespect 'cheaper' copies of products then hail the 'higher' quality copies of gear....

to me its like art, you'll always have the origional picasso, then you might have 2 different artists copy it, one may do a perfect copy and the other may do another perfect copy using different materials.....nothing is as good as the origional, but to many, the origional is far out of reach.....

there is many a product, which is much more affordable copy, or 'imitation' of the origional which is sometimes considered as good or better than the origional product, for example jay dee provided excelent, more affordable versions of alembic basses, olp do the same thing with musicman and spector basses and some people find SRV's version of little wing to be more emotive than hendrix's...

but what im trying to say, is that many things come down to personal preferences, standards, experiences and if you believe a brand name and a larger price tag means a better product, personally, i dont think it does....i bought a classic bass 4x10 with selenium drivers and i hold it in higher reguard than a SWR goliath 3...

so in conclusion, if you think a line 6 pod will give you a better tone than a behringer v-amp pro, or a celinder jazz bass will sound better and play better than a fender standard jazz and you can afford it, i say go for it, but i beleive that 90% of the gear out there will give you a good sound, you just need to get to know it and learn how to pull that tone from it....

to all a good evening and to all a good night, that is the end of this rant :D

I know my ABM300 is far better than the 300watt behringer head in terms of:

True Tone
Valve Tone
Volume
Preamp "tweakability"
Build Quality
Parts used
Care in design
Peace of Mind.

Yeah, but the behringer isn't emulating that head, it is copying the made in China MAG series one... How does it compare to that?

I am new to talkbass and this is my first post. Currently I am using a Behringer Bass V-amp pro, a Behringer Dualfex processor, and a Behringer EP1500 in a rack. I have been reading this post and other posts about Behringer and their products. I am married with three kids and I am definetely not a pro or gig every night. But the Behringer stuff was what I could AFFORD!!!!!!!!! I had a BX3000t. All my friends who have played on it from Fodera owners to Squire owners have raved about the sound and are amazed at how much it cost. I understand about the ethics but when I have a need for gear and my wallet is not cooperating, what can a guy do? For those who do not want people to buy the stuff, can you send me an EDEN navigator. I can give you my address. :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

I'm not upholding or putting anybody down - but I read this posting on a different forum and thought it held some truth.

Auto manufacturers and whitegoods manufacturers do the same thing every day, so there's no reason to single out Behringer as the bad guys.
Unquote.

Not to mention...

What about the guys who designed the orrigionals and their families?

What about them? It sounds like they have not been harmed at all, because Robear stated pretty clearly that he couldn't afford those....

BTW, Robear, welcome to TalkBass. You really jumped in with both feet, laying down your first post in THIS thread.... :hiding:

How does him saying that he cant afford those show that the designers are ok?

Not sure how that is relevant, at least to this one example....

The issue revolves around *lost sales*..... and how "stolen" designs can cost the original developer financially....

Since they weren't going to make a sale to Robear anyway, they've not been damaged... again, at least in this one example....
