Any road bikers?

Found this thread - after picking up an old road bike that I couldn't pass on b/c the price was right. I haven't ridden regularly in 18 years; about six years ago I bought an older road bike to get back into it but the seat post clamp broke and I was unable to salvage the components for my old Cannondale frame, so away it went on CL. However, the Giant 980c I just got (vintage '90, '91 or so) seems a perfect fit (I'm 6'5" tall), looks almost brand new, appears to have been completely serviced within the last 2-3 years. The tires are new (well, NOS if you found them today, but they haven't been ridden on) and the tubes are good as they are holding air just fine.

Went for a ride with the family yesterday afternoon and it rode great. Yeah, I know - pics or it didn't happen. I'll get some...

Hey everyone, like many people (including the OP) I'm soon going to be making the jump from MTB to road bike. I'm starting to do research to figure out which bike will work best for my needs. Anyway, was wondering if everyone could give me a few suggestions on beginner (or intermediate) road bikes (so far Specialized and Cannondale seem to be a good match).

I should add that, the bike will be used for both long races and triathlons.

Can't help you there mate as I am totally ignorant with regards to current hardware. FWIW I'm biased towards Cannondale.

Ironically, I explain my conversion from guitar to bass as going from a road bike to a mountain bike. Does anyone else agree? Having said that, are you dabbling in guitar on the side? Lol...

Lakland, I recommend looking at entry level carbon fiber bikes. The brand is not too important as the playing field is pretty level, but it should have at least shimano 105 quality components or better. Anything less and it a toy, not a tool. Expect to spend $1600-1800.
