The Lazer is essentially unvented when the shell is on it. I think the back is open.

The Catlike probably doesn't get much air. The holes in front are more for sunglasses than venting. The US version doesn't have vents at all.

I need a new helmet since mine is several years old. Lazer looks like it would be a decent all around helmet. They have an integrated hat, the removable aero/rain shell, and even have sunglasses that clip to the helmet straps. Added aero/warmth is part of my goal. My old team issued Louis Garneau is fine, but one thing that bugs me is the helmet ridge is cut a little low and I can't see as much when riding with my head down. The Lazer also basically allows me to bring one helmet if I'm traveling and doing a Merckx time trial.

I am sure your guarantee will not cover a helmet which cracked due to a fall. Cracking, compressing, disintegrating, and otherwise becoming unusable is what a bicycle helmet is supposed to do in a fall. They give their lives so that you can keep yours and your brain's! Bicycle helmets are single impact devices and they are all made to the same standards so I buy only the lower priced ones. Same protection, less money, but they may weigh a bit more (and I have 20 pounds to lose before I start worrying about that!) and have less ventilation.

We are to be pitied, eh? There is no end to spending in either cycling or bass playing!

So are any of you going to RAGBRAI? I'm heading out Saturday morning.

The two year rule is generally overkill. Some manufacturers do offer a crash replacement discount.

It's ridiculous how much money I spend on things that are designed to be single-use.

Lazers are also excellent for shoving a cap up under, with the curve on the front. Also very good for those of us with excessively large domes. I have a Kask actually though.

Cask seems nice. Their US pricing is a bit stiff. I'd gladly consider the Bambino for winter riding and Merckx time trials, but not at ~$500. I can get a helmet or two for that price tag.

Last saturday I went for a ride at 3PM. It was HOT , probably between 35-40 Celcius with 80+% humidity. After 4 minutes of riding the tires were finger burning hot. I wanted to see if I was going to have a heart attack or not.

I did a 30 km ride on the sea side where people were jumping into the water and looking at me as if I was some kind of an alien. If I had excess water I'd pour it down my head but the 2 bottles I had + 1 I bought were barely enough. I can't imagine doing that with a TT helmet.

I'm going to buy a Specialised Align helmet as I've read on the web that it's got good ventilation and I'm not a racer. I don't like my brains fried.:p

I'm always careful about high temps and time trialing. I had a heat index of about 95 when I did my ~40km time trial with an unvented helmet and some heavier material long sleeve skin suit. I made sure to hydrate very well before, during, and after. I'm also going at a fairly high intensity. Was not very pleasant. Probably could have cracked 24mph for my average if the weather were a shade cooler. The heat took a lot out of me and it's harder to go at my max.

The POC TT helmet is extremely strange looking. Then again, so are the rest of the POC helmets and their sunglasses.

I'm sure a different skin suit might have helped. I wore DeMarchi's heavier material and long sleeves. A normal kit would be a lot better for dealing with the heat. I've debated using a normal jersey for extremely hot days and perhaps pin the pockets shut. Nor sure about the Team Sky kit. That seems a little revealing. I'd feel a tad naked.

I don't get most folks buying and wearing biking garb. They are not in competition with anyone. It's obvious they are riding a bike so no need for the costume to identify yourself. In theory it is for exercise, so why reduce your workout?

I have 1 pair of cycling shorts - baggy MTB ones, and a pair of briefs for under regular shorts. One pair boots and one pair shoes and a helmet. I can't count the times I've been finishing a 2-3 hour ride only to encounter someone in full gear on a big buck bike plodding along. Or I'll be in cool down mode on the last couple miles and some Dbag in gear will want to race - hell I raced one of them once with a kid in a kid carrier on the back of my hardtail. Kid thought it was great fun.(we rode away from him)

Racing? Take every advantage you can get. Casual ride? I think you look like a tool.

1. Bright so people and cars can see us better.
2. Moisture wicking, far superior on hot days.
3. Superior chamois, far superior on long rides
4. Pockets in the back for gear.
5. Team gear is often better than the off the rack Pearl Izumi stuff and sometimes cheaper.
6. We're not too shy and afraid of wearing anything but MTB baggies. Too much drag and chafing on long rides.
