any smokers switch to Vaping yet?

DON"T CHAIN VAPE IT!

I got 3ml of my flavor in 24mg from my cousin the other day... twice I was on the verge of passing out nauseous :)

I tried everything to quit smoking. I was hooked bad. This is the only thing that has worked. Been off analogs for about 2 years now. I had considered e-cigs, but I never tried them until James made this thread.
Thanks James, you've probably added years to my life.

same here, and all of you are very welcome! this stuff saved me, I'm happy to spread the knowledge!

Anyone ordering from Sweet-vapes, please feel free to mention me or Talkbass. Maybe we can get a TB discount going on :bassist:

Thanks guys. Have to do some digging around, probably have more questions. Be at least a week before I could buy any of this stuff anyway. Some is probably available in headshops/smoke shops here, but I don't know what's quality/what's cheap knockoffs/what to look for etc.

if you have a vape shop you can get some ego/kgo style stuff (all of those are made in china)... stay away from the little cigarette diameter stuff if you can, you'll get about 2 hours out of a charge on one of those. There are 3 main thread types and the 510 is most popular. My LR901 attys sit on a 510->901/808 adapter. I buy all my attys from Cisco (forum name) this is his shop:
http://www.avidvaper.com/#

He is one of the first guys on the scene to really take atomizers and tweak them to work better/more reliably/last longer. He use to sell to retailers who resold 'cisco spec' attys, but places like Alt smoke and others started selling knock offs. He eventually opened his own shop and only sells direct now. I get up to 3 months out of one of his... I usually swap out @ 2 months.

Posted before I saw your reply James. Thanks for the tips.

any time! I get alerts on my phone for the thread and PMs.

I do almost all of my TB posting from my Evo smartphone, so I'll be hitting the local shops with this thread open with all it's names and links and see what's what.

You're lucky. My "local shops" are cigarette and cigar stores, with a tiny little ecig display. There's also a kiosk at the local mall, but even a lazy search will be enough to show that they aren't the best options.

I started shopping online after the first month, when I tired of the hassle of constantly charging those little 808 batteries. I went from the 808's right to building my own 510 mods, first little 3.7v ones and then a few VV.

I don't really have the ambition to build these things often so I've bought a few. Killed two Lavatubes. My VV Gripper from Madvapes is still going strong and works so much more consistently than the Lavatube.

So, I've got about half the cash needed to make the plunge. That gives me another week or two to keep reading up and make a good choice.

The biggest problem I have is that I want to smoke astronomically more when I drink. I've really got to watch myself in those kinds of situations.

I have smoked since my late teens, I'm 40 now. Heavy. About 1-3/4 packs a day, can get over 2 if drinking or staying up late. Just as a "place to get started", what would you suggest?

From what little I can gather, between 24 and 32 mg. Maybe 50/50 VG/PG and some sort of battery/juice system that can handle sucking on it all day with some left over......oh...and preferrably taste like an "analog"<-----funny term, as much as possible at least to start with.

Marlboro smoker here....reds or "mediums", nothing "lights" or weaker and no menthol. I figure if I can get past some of the initial cravings/shock for the real thing, I could then try other flavors, lower dosages gradually, etc.

Once again man, thanks for this.

i am very similar ... i smoked camel lights 1.5-2 PAD for over 20 years. 2 years ago me and the wife went RYO with light tobacco and FF tubes ... still 1.5-2 PAD.

i started vaping 24mg juice a little over 4 months ago, with a couple of little 36mg bottles to go along with that first cup of coffee in the morning. 4 months later. we are in the 16-18 range for most stuff. the next juices i order will probably be around 12mg - we are pretty well stocked right now though.

i tried the traditional "tobacco" flavor juices ... none of them really appealed to me, especially after about 2 weeks off of cigarettes. my wife loves dekang kamal (all vg, not the pg) .. but it gags me. my tobacco vapes are ecblends RY4, darkness, and sweet virginia. my non-baccy vapes are mainly orange cream, lemonade, rum&coke (only from vapedudes), and mtn dew.

i will drip some red hots, or some strawberry&cream, or some spicy chai ... but my all day tanks are ry4 and orange cream.
i found that when starting out ... having a LOT of different flavors to switch between helped curb the vapers tongue and kept me interested enough to not want a smoke.

as always, start with small bottles, get a couple of 2Ω 510 atomizers and a tip to drip new flavors, and if looking at ego style kits - seriously consider the twists. not even for the variable voltage - though it is nice. the fact that they are regulated is more important - where you set it, is the voltage you get, till it dies. i can't stress how important that is for someone just starting.

i was lucky that when i started, good prophets had a 10ml for 1.99 sale going - i ordered a crapload of juice, pretty cheap.

vapedudes does a 40% for your first order - so if you order from them, make it count - and they have a coupon code for a free 10ml that works for the first 15 ppl to try it - fbfree

ecblends start with 5ml bottles @ 2.50 ... and 30ml start at 9$, and it is pretty good juice, and totally customizable. i get the reduced pg, me and the wife prefer vg heavy juices. if you want more thump in the throat, go 50/50 or higher in the pg direction.

warning on coffee juices - if you drink coffee all day like i do, you probably wont like them as much as you think you will. i was very disappointing in most i have tried.

Man, thanks for all that.

Obviously, I don't know much about the vapor stuff, just thinking of something strong and as close to a "analog" as I can get...at least for the first round, or a week or 2 or whatever.

Headshops are legal here (with some regulation, of course. Example, it's not a "bong", it's a waterpipe for tobacco, etc.), and I know they have some of this type of stuff, ( for vaping/tobacco replacement, not just weed) just don't know the selection/quality, etc. I figure it'd be a good "in person" place to check out. Been there plenty of times for other stuff before:hiding: and the people are generally cool. Let you know what works for them, into more natural stuff, not too much marketing hype, etc.

I'm not opposed at all to getting supplies online and stuff, just thought I'd shop around there as well, as it's local, convenient, and would at least be able to get more opinions and try some small batch stuff. If I don't like a particular one, can stop in on the way home and pick up some different flavor to try.

try a 555 (nutty tobacco), an ry4 (tobacco w/ caramel/vanilla), etc ... some "usa mix" is really good, some is flowery and perfumey and nasty. don't expect any juice to really taste like a burning marlboro though.

i find that i prefer thicker, heavier vapor to a harsh throat hit. hence, the VG heavy juices i get. if you find the flavor lacking, many juice vendors have "extra flavor" options.

Thanks again. You guys are a real help here. I'm a little wierd I guess in that I don't want to hear all this "you should quit" or "I'd love to help you" type crap from my direct circle of friends/loved ones/significant other, etc., it just pisses me off. Bass players on the internet though...it's a real help/inspiration. I don't know why that is, but it is.

Thanks again Thorbear! I got the vape-mail yesterday :bassist:

That's great, and my pleasure.

I've set up my smaller MAP tank (2.5ml, the large is has 5ml capacity) on my 2-toned mini GLV2... I once called it 'as good as dripping' and as a long time regular dripper I can now say that only dripping is as good as dripping :smug: Don't get me wrong, it's clean tasting and fairly consistent... but nowhere as good as the flavor of a high quality, debridged & dewicked LR901 (IMHO/E, FWIW, & YMMV)

I have not tried dripping yet, but I'm sure i will. It sounds a bit more inconvenient when out of the house or when driving though, but I'm sure it's good for around the house.

On a side note: My cousin is still doing well AND she gave her second Kgo (1100mah model starter with 2 batteries) to her mother who is now off tobacco a couple days as well. She also shares her Kgo with her fiance when they are hanging out together and after a few days of it, he's thinking he needs to order one for himself :)

Brilliant, glad to hear it.
I let a colleague of mine try one of my twists today. He is an older guy (60+) and has had 2 heart attacks, has been working for a few months now after recovering from the last one. But he is hopelessly addicted to smoking, and willingly says so. After a couple of puffs he asked if i could order a kit for him aswell, so we went online and did so right away. Hoping it will be as effective for him too :)

i never looked at it as quitting anything.

i merely upgraded my nicotine delivery system.

...birds of a feather I assume.

It's not for everyone, but I find it WAY more convenient. My LR901 with a drip shield attached takes 3-4 drops at a time once primed (takes 4-5 drops, a hit or 2, 4-5 more drops to get it going when new). I find each time I drip the couple of drops, I get a cigarette or 2 worth of use. I carry with me at all times, one of my GLV, the little blue bottle in this picture, and sometimes a spare battery

Awesome!

I think a club would really be a good idea here. Anyone care to start it off? I don't feel I know enough yet to be the lead.

I nominate James. :D

I hereby second the nomination.

I vape, but it is not something I define myself with... I enjoy teaching people about it, but don't think I would stick with upkeep of number assignment and such.

Feel free to give me #1 if you'd like, it would be an honor.
I will subscribe to the thread and follow it, but discussion should be here until we reach 1000 posts and thread part 2 gets opened up :)

Another Club? Ughh. What's the point? We are here, we are subbed to the thread, we are talking, do we really need numbers? This is a good thread, it'll keep going.

That is kinda my point... I second that ;)

I'm really liking that burl mod holder. I really should take a few minutes and make one for myself. I've got a TON of exotic cutoffs in the shop just begging to be sitting beside my recliner!!

Thanks, I've got a few scattered around the house of either maple burl, flamed maple, or ash. Simple to make and look good. I use tung oil to finish them and stick little clear cabinet bumpers on as feet.
