I was in the one in Watertown a few years back. It's pretty small--not much selection of anything. They did have a cool old Univox Lectra bass which I had fun with for a few years after fixing up the electronics. Ended up selling it about a year ago, though, as I just couldn't deal with the narrow string spacing.

I tend to only buy strings at White House since on average it's a lot more expensive to shop there. They also wanted far to much for a set up and wanted to ship the bass, sorry, nope, not for a set up. I then learned to do my own.

p.s. They at one point had a wonderful Sunn amp (in Watertown) I had never seen before with a huge Sunn cab that had 412's in it... coolest equipment I've seen there.

I agree that Bob's generally doesn't have a lot in the way of great new stuff, but occasionally you find a gem. Case in point, I got my first Begie HT-115 from there (on consignment) for $350 - I usually haggle with Dennis (Dennis is the only guy to deal with there), but not on that Bergie...I just plain bought it!
Lincoln House is excellent for lower to mid-range stuff. Occasionally, you can find a used gem there as well - and the people are great.
Check out Top Shelf Guitars just south on KK from Lincoln ave., 2358 S. Kinnnickinnic Ave., to be exact. Jeff Benke runs the place. He doesn't have much for basses, but he is a Genz dealer and will give you a very good deal, he is also a Hamer dealer. Most importantly, Jeff is the only guy I let touch my basses and guitars - excellent set-ups at very reasonable prices. He's done over a dozen set-ups fpr me over the last 3 years, and I have not once had a single issue. Tell him Jamie Mac sent you - he knows me very well and will take care of you!
Stay away from Blue Flame Music unless you want to pay too much. Nice enough guys, but lousy prices.
If you need a repair done on a quality instrument, there is only one guy to go to (Jeff from Top Shelf will tell you the same thing), go to Rauen Guitars. Denny Rauen has done work on 2 instruments for me and has worked on several others that have belong to friends and band-mates. Denny is a magician...you will never know that your instrument was damaged! (Be advised: Denny ain't cheap!).
Music Go Round near Southridge Mall on 74th street is another place where I have had great luck finding gear and accessories AND I've built a great report with the guys that work there - build a report, and you can strike deals!

Last summer I went to ward-brodt and they told me they were no longer selling electric guitars/basses.

Music go round also closed a year or two ago. I work in the grocery across the street from where it used to be, and I was very sad to come to work one day to see that it was now an auto parts store.

Thanks Guitar Center! That was the only store in town that sold Hartke. I was pretty pissed.

Thanks for the info Rugaar, I live real close to the west side Best Buy, I'm definitely gonna zip over there tonight and see what's up.

This thread made me realize how long its been since I actually spent time in Madison. Maybe I should just stick to Milwaukee :hmm:

Hi All,
I'm in Waukesha and play in the band Dirty Boogie. It's great to see other TB folks in WI.

As far as the White House of Music goes, I've got the main store near me and use it only as a last resort. They're really expensive and never seem very friendly. I usually head to GC but only because I know what I want and can get in and out. Warp Drive is really nice but I never feel comfortable in there. UB can be good for deals on occasion but they're not what they used to be.

With that all said, I do like to check stuff out at Casio Interstate. I've got a few friends that work there and they always have cool stuff. Plus, I never get weird looks if I crank something up. I've actually been encouraged to do so.

Also, I've found Dave's Guitar Repair to be a great place to get work done on my basses. He's in West Allis and I've had him do a few things for me.

Again, it's good to see the locals. Chat on.

Good memory man, I hardly remember that gig myself (can't say there was much to remember though either). I went to check out you're band's site and it said that Cornerstone is no more. Are you playing with someone else now?

Your memory also serves you right with the gear. In '07 I was playing a Modulus Q6 and a Kydd upright. I still have those but I mostly gig with 4 and 5 string Jazz basses now. Were you playing a Fender P at the time?

My band broke up a month ago (9 months too late, long story).
I was playing Laklands back then, and still.
You guys gig pretty often.

Yeah, we're playing 2 or 3 times a week. Things have been pretty good for us but we're musical prostitutes. If it pays we play. I think we did something like a 150 shows last year, give or take. Some cool some not.

Are you getting your Laklands from Cream City or elsewhere? I've been interested in checking some out but I'm wondering where the best place would be.

There is a nice guy that helps me and spends allot of time with me when I go to White House in West Bend. I feel bad because I have never bought a thing from them.

I am not sure White House the type of store that caters to guys out there playing and I have heard their prices are high.

Bent - did you use to rock a PV Brian Bromberg? I just played a church gig with Chris - he ran sound for us. Hear you guys do TOP!

What happened to Unity? Jammed with the drummer (steve?) and Pita a couple of times. Drummer was tight!

As for myself: Neenah / Menasha here - played briefly with Big Safari. Now play to a captive audience every Sunday :smug:

Cream City is currently the ONLY local Lakland dealer.
