Madison area here. When I moved here from the flatlands I played with the Spanic Boys. Lately I'm more local with Sean Michael Dargan and occasionally the Getaway Drivers. 2 new startups in rehearsal are Kyle Henderson and Blue Eyed Soul, and Outside the Blues.

Any Wisconsin Bassists out there??

Oh God, I remember the TA Verns days! Both as a customer and as a band. In fact two gigs there are what caused the guys to change the bands name from "Squeeze Tight" to "The Taken" I won't say much as I was just peripheral to the band, but the guys felt they got shafted when they were payed for the gigs.
I was born and raised in Milwaukee and now live right across the river from Wisconsin in Menominee MI. And as to Milwaukee area music shops, I miss Crown Music in Bay View, and love Casio Interstate out in Brookfield! And Music Go Round in Greenfield had a lot of nice stuff and they guys were fun to deal with. They were the ones that had a used Fender Geddy in great shape, for under 600! And Blue Flame was an interesting browsing experience! The guys were great, but they didn't have a ton of stuff...small shop.
BTW, any decent shops in Wausau? Anyone?
They are my home base in Milwaukee! I got my first instrument from them, a trumpet at like age 8. They repaired my first bass, a Cortez P copy. My first new bass came from them, my T 40. They also replaced a blown speaker in my TKO 80. I also recently bought My Peavey Max 112 amp from them on a trip back home.
Bob has been there forever, in fact I am sure he was the one who sold me the T 40.
Like I say, I have two local shops. Main Street Music here in Marinette WI and Lincolin House of Music when I am back in Milwaukee.
The fire was the 10th or 11th of January...

FWIW, I first met Rusty when he was playing bass for Mother's Room in the early 90s. He was using the Rick Blackstars through the Trace rig.

Want to know why Ward Brodt is a Fail, Mid 80s Im sent to The Chicago NAMM show (The last one held I think) To report back to the owner the state of the Bass.
I told him about 5 and 6 string Basses, and even Fretless basses.
I was told that Rock Bass players dont want that, They are all failed guitarist anyway.
All They want is a colorful Fender to Play roots and Octaves on. nothing more!!!!!

Hi Jonny B. I think I have a gig in your area on June 13th. My drummer booked it and he lives in DePere , but I live in the Northwoods (Ya Der Hey) so I don't know that area at all. Is the Cimeron ( I don't even know if I spelled it right ) in Menasha?? I play in a classic rock cover band called Copperhead that plays in Northern / North Eastern / the Fox Valley , and the Greenbay/DePere area. Unfortunately at the moment most of our upcoming gigs are in Northern Wisconsin and one over by Crivitz on May 2nd. We usually only play one or two weddings a year , but this summer/fall we already have six booked and I heard that someother people want to contact us about a few more. I told our guitarist/singer that were going to have to call him the wedding singer and that we're going to have to learn "Love Stinks" - Lol. Pedulla-Player
I've only been in Jerry's Music a few times a few years back and was never very impressed - maybe things have changed since then. I bought my old Genz Benz rig a couple of years ago at Wausua Music Center and they treated me pretty decent. I only stopped in Marc Guitars once and they had some pretty cool basses ( but expensive - maybe they were worth it - they looked like high quality basses ) , but I can't remember what kind they were. There is a new store called Oktober music in Wausau , but they wanted to take me to the cleaners when I wanted to trade my Bass amp and speaker cabinets in. Needless to say I traveled from 20 miles north of Antigo all the way to Cascio/Interstate music in New Berlin to trade my gear in for a new Bass amp and speaker cabinets. Chad treated me pretty decent. I bought my Pedulla from Jim Laabs in Stevens Point about 13 years ago and they treated me good then , but when I called them recently about trading my Bass rig in they also wanted to change my name to Ben-Dover if you catch my drift. I hope this has been somewhat helpfull. These are just my opinions , maybe you'd feel differently if you stoped at the music stores that I mantioned. Pedulla-Player

I've been making central Wisconsin my home base for 30 years.
The music stores around here blow. All of them have cut way back on handling bass gear as there is almost no market for bass gear because there aren't many bass players in this area. Hard to find anything to even try out around here anymore.
Anyone in Wisconsin playing for the Rock'Roll Revival in May? I'll be playing in three bands that weekend. That event is tons of fun and well attended all weekend.

I've been hanging at Jerry's Music since the 70's. I've known and dealt with Dick there ever since. I got my first amp and bass from there 30+ years ago (Ampeg SVT head and a pre-CBS P-Bass...regret selling both ever since!!!). Like all music stores around here they are all going downhill with regards to bass gear. I still get some good deals at Jerry's though it's seldom they have much in there for me.
I've known Marc at Marc's guitar for quite a while. He carry's no bass gear anymore...all guitar.
October guitars has the most in stock for bass players but he doesn't have a wide selection of anything either. They are one of the few that actually seem to be getting better. Tough for shops around here.
Wausau Music Center blows, in every way imaginable. The manager is a first class jerk. I've been playing around here longer than he's been alive.
Bass players are an afterthought with all of the stores around here. I guess the three of us local bass players should open our own bass shop.
Sonic was really big in the 80s. At least around here, but I know they advertised nationally in magazines. (I remember all those ads with the Cudahy rock chicks all dressed to go out to TA Vern's...) My first big cab was a Sonic 1x15+2x10, after that I got a Sonic 4x10. I remember the cabs were heavy, but they were both good cabs. "Back in the day" everyone had some sort of Sonic cabs- they were good and they were relatively inexpensive-
The dude who runs Sonic also runs North Coast Music (sells all the "British Invasion" type gear) and he's also in The Britins. He does AWESOME tolex recovering- my brother in law had an old Fender combo redone in brown tolex- amazing job.

I'm sure that you know more about the Wausau area music stores than I do , because I've only been to each one a few times - Once for October Music. I'm sure that your right about Wausau Music Center - Every time that I've traded my Bass Equipment in for new gear I get bent over and take one in the rear no matter where or who I deal with. Some just stick it to ya more than others. (Sorry for such a sick way of expressing that , but thats kinda how I feel when the deal is done.-Not that I'd truely know how that feels-Lol-It's just an expression.) I was just giving my opinion on my limited experience in thoses stores. Usually if I do a big deal I travel to Milwaukee , with the Genz Benz deal at Wausau Music Center being the one exception - I guess you could throw in my Pedulla purchase at Jim Laabs 13 years ago in there also. I believe I had a sonic 18x20 (18" and two 10" speakers) cab with RCF speakers in it back in the late 80's. I ran it with my GK 800RB. It sounded great , but it was very heavy and I got tired of hauling it around so I got rid of it. Plus my 800RB fried on me and I wasn't sure if it was because of the cab or if the head just had some issues. That was another reason that I got rid of it. I may have been hooking the cab up wrong to the head , long time ago hard to say what went wrong. Pedulla-Player

Oshkosh here. I play in a Social Distortion tribute called Prison Bound and every year or so I get together with my old high school bandmates and we play a show under the name of The Big Charro.
