I found my current originals project as a paying member. When I wasn't a paying member I could receive emails and reply but I couldn't initiate a conversation. I finally paid for a membership since I really wasn't getting any contacts for an original band. I was contacted and played with a good cover band but it only made me realize how much I hate playing in cover bands!

Tbh I lucked out. I accidentally forgot to limit the mileage on my search and found a great original band almost 60 miles away. Careful what you wish for, right? Hey, they like my songs and I like theirs. Win win. I'll drive for that.

I think you will run into just as many flakes on bandmix but it will help you cast a wider net. Ymmv

I had a paid account for several months while we looked for a drummer. I reached out to about twenty drummers and heard back from a handful. Did not get a single audition though. Its a great idea but having to pay severely limits the pool of musicians that can communicate with one another. Therefore not many musicians check in more than once a month.

Shame about that site, it's got a lot of potential but the pricing is all wrong. You can't contact anyone or be contacted by anyone unless both parties are paying members. Membership is $13 monthly.. I mean netflix is only 7 bucks. Dumb. They could make a lot of money if they just dropped the price to $5 and let non-paying members contact you with a paying membership. Dumbasses.

My experience differs from what you said about the contact rules. I used to be a paying member, but dropped that, and I still can and do receive messages from people who pay, plus I can respond to those messages. I just got a couple of messages within the past month and responded. So at least in my experience, the sender only has to be a paying member. Plus there used to be (and probably still are) plans longer than monthly renewal. I was doing quartetly membership for something like $30. And it does do a better (but not perfect) job of weeding out the flakes compared to craigslist.

I have an unpaid account right now. I had paid for whatever the lowest amount was at one point so I could contact people. I found my current cover band through the site, and here we are almost 4 years later going stronger than ever.

Once my other projects are finished I might pay again to find another recording project or something similar.

I get messages all the time but I can't respond to them...

Yes, you can receive messages if you are non-paying, and respond to those messages. I've had a profile up for a few months and received a few messages. I thought about pitching for a month or two, but I'll wait and see if the current project I am working with will pan out.

I don't have a paid account but I was contacted by Ritchie Blackmore's manager on a couple of occasions through Bandmix. The first time I received copies of two of their CD's and sent them three audition tapes over the course of the screening process coming really close to getting the gig. The second time I was ignored after submitting one demo recording.

i just put contact info on the profile.

paying to contact is f'd up. does the reciever of the message have to pay to read it? if so, then why pay to send a message of ey may not read it. i also hate they inactivate for over a month. it needs to be more specific.
No you do not have to pay to read messages sent to you from a subscriber and no they do not deactivate your account after a month or even a year...I have gone for extremely long stretches without logging in and my account has remained alive and well. Never been a paid subscriber though, I suppose if you pay for a month of premium services, that's what you get...then your account reverts to include only the unpaid features.

So much misinformation!
