Anybody actually pay for Bandmix?

After some frustration with Craigslist, I thought I'd spruce up my Bandmix profile a bit and do some searching.

I knew there was a "paid" option, but I had no idea (until now) that you had to pay to be able to contact anyone. I understand the whole financial viability thing for Bandmix, but I'd be curious to know the percentage of paid accounts.

So, how many here that have a Bandmix profile have a paid account?

One way to look at the benefit of paying to contact someone is that it weeds out the riff raff.

Shame about that site, it's got a lot of potential but the pricing is all wrong. You can't contact anyone or be contacted by anyone unless both parties are paying members. Membership is $13 monthly.. I mean netflix is only 7 bucks. Dumb. They could make a lot of money if they just dropped the price to $5 and let non-paying members contact you with a paying membership. Dumbasses.

Yeah, I had seen one profile where they put their phone number. I wouldn't do that, but an alternate email address would be ok.

You would think that the website might be a little more savvy and scan profile descriptions for phone numbers and emails and censor them, but then again that would likely be a huge turnoff for a lot of people.

I can see having to pay to contact someone, but once you pay, you should be able to contact both paying and non-paying members. And yes, the price is a little much. $60/yr would be reasonable. Then again, it's an investment in your craft.. If you're that serious, the current price shouldn't be an issue.

I wonder how many people don't know you have to pay to contact someone, or contact you, and are then disenchanted with the site because they're not getting any contacts.

I just tried to add a hotmail address to my profile description and when you view my profile, the domain name is stripped off. So I tried "name at hotmail.com" and it still stripped off the hotmail domain. So I used the following:

"send an email to my hot mail acct using my screen name"

and it stuck. Of course, it requires the reader to understand what I'm talking about, but I don't think it's that cryptic. Or is it?

Not too cryptic for me, but I've done the same thing. Last time I was looking for a band, I substituted "geemale" for "gmail". I got one response, so apparently at least one person understood what I was up to.

What you have to understand is that some people may not have discovered what you discovered. I voted yes but here's what I did. Found a promising singer who didn't have any contact info. I didn't want to wait around and see if she discovered me. Paid for 1 month. Actually now that I remember it there were 2 singers. Set up auditions for them both in which time I gave them my email adreess. Had the auditions, made our decision, deleted the account. She has been great and I would do it again if I needed to. But I have snuck my contact info in there before. Here's how you do it

I think I used spaces to get mine to stick.. "dgrizzly [at] g m a i l [dot] com" or something like that.. I haven't had any luck with Bandmix though. CL is still the number one source I use to find new guys to jam with

I recently went paid because of the contact issue and there were several I wanted to contact. Worked a lot better than CL for me. All I got were flakes from CL. Had my first rehearsal with a great bunch of like minded guys last night. I think I signed up for the 3 month deal. They clearly state that for "my convenience" it will automatically renew unless I cancel. I have a reminder in my calendar to cancel when it comes up. I consider it a resonable investment.

I had a profile for a while but didn't pay. I had a couple of hits but nothing panned out. I eventually deleted but was thinking about starting back up. I think the price is high.

I have an account, I have my email masked as "ohioeric@g mail . com". I have my phone number just listed plainly right in the ad.

Also, I have never paid for an account but I have been contacted a couple times through the site in the past by paying members. Have they changed that policy?

Some advertise $50 for 3 months where the listings
are for working bands looking for players.

Paid for three months. Auditioned four very good lead guitar players. Found one and off I went.

I find the search function utterly useless. On this side of the pond zip codes are called post codes, so....put in my postcode (South London), specify "within 10kM" and it produces....Scotland! 600 miles away! Unless it's grave operator error on my part, of course.

Did the paid Bandmix thing for 1 month, got some responses, nothing stuck though. Got a drummer off Reverbnation (free) and a guitarist of CL

I have one, but I don't use it any more. I think I still get emails from them to the account I no longer use.....

I basically use my Bandmix page as an electronic press kit. I do very little interacting with other Bandmix members...I use the link to my page when inquiring about gigs and stuff. It has a nice format for just listing the important details and I can post a few tunes with my playing which is nice. The Reverbnation profile page is too busy and really geared for working bands more than individual musicians in my opinion and you get barraged by all their promo stuff.
