our bands bandmix profile has been up for so long and NO one has contact us, throught the website or email. i would say f bandmix, but in order for the site to get better i have to promote it.

Anybody actually pay for Bandmix?

Well I don't think I'm stupid (maybe I'm wrong) but when I try to put my email address in the site (bandmix) they cut it out - I think I found a way around it (don't want to say how because they might cut that out too), but it's clear the site doesn't want you to be able to contact anyone without paying - I think THAT's stupid on their part, because it just gets people frustrated (I already dropped it once, and have rejoined now, but not seeing any results - though my profile is not up to date yet) - is there no alternative to bandmix, craigslist or reverbnation (which I've yet to try) - people say do it the old fashioned way which I appreciate - but we're in the modern era - there should be more ways for people who want to play with other musicians - both professional and non - to network on the internet - there should be alternatives to bandmix - are there?It's easy enough to sneak your contact info into your free profile. Anybody too stoopid to do that ain't somebody I'd want to play with anyways...
Facebook works pretty good for me… Of course it's fashionable to hate on Facebook.
Most people that would venture into any social media site for musicians probably already have a Facebook account. Locally there's a few different groups that have been created on Facebook that musicians hang out in. Facebook is not all bad as long as you filter out all the bull.
There have been a few alternatives to band mix… Can't think of them right now but they all seem to be focused on A subscription-based model.
I certainly don’t hate Facebook. It’s what people post that drives me nuts. But, I can say that you can find musicians on Facebook, usually by finding some kind of local musician networking club.
I have recently signed up as a paying member. Got my first hit a week ago and we are meeting at a local rental studio this coming Monday evening. They also said they were looking for drummer so I am bringing my old bands drummer too. One thing bothers me is that they had no videos or recording of them playing. I sent them a few of my drummer and myself from past gigs. I have no idea what to expect other than it is a classic rock start up band.
My account is so old that they let me use my email address as my user name. The downside is that I can't make any changes to my account because they won't let me without changing my user name. Of course, the upside is obvious.
It's a decent site but I wonder about players who have been on there for a year or so........unfortunately, the musicians on bandmix don't appear to be any less flakey than the Craigslist types. Save your money.
Free account holder about 15 years now. Received a few messages. Never found a band. Not really useful for R&B/Funk bands. Have had way more results using Craigslist.
I just reopened my account. (Unpaid) as I want to get back into an originals project as a change of pace from my cover band. Prior to closing it, I've used it off and on since 2012. I've played with 1 drummer and 1 singer from the site in all these years. Neither panned out. I frequently get audition invites, and have already gotten one in less than 24 hours since opening it. Unfortunately, like all the others, it's a genre I'm not interested in playing. I keep holding out as CL is so bad (at least here in Denver) and seems to be getting worse lately.
I had a bandmix, paid account for 3 months and dropped it. Many of the posting on there are old and outdated. I'd contact someone and they would say something like "oh, we found our guitar player 6 months ago....". Other times I found people who didn't read your profile and would invite you to jam with a Beach Boys tribute band. No thanks. Finally, there were a few people who would set up one jam after another and then cancel - very Craigslist like. So, IMHO, not worth the time or money. Just sayin'.
If I am actively looking for bandmates, I will pay for a one-month subscription. I have connected with a number of people through Bandmix, with some good results. My current band found me that way (paying members can contact non-paying members). For me, it's an added level for vetting candidates – I'm more likely to reach out to somebody if they've put some time and effort into their profile with pictures and audio. I'm kind of turned off by people who game the system with a thinly disguised email or phone number. It's kind of like helping yourself to a handful of guitar picks at the guitar shop. There are several places like CL and FB if you are looking for a free ride.
I pay for Bandmix when I want to contact someone. Pretty it up any way you want, but when you use a service without paying for it, you're stealing.

Under "new matches" and "local members" at the dashboard you can hover over the thumbnail and a "contact" and "hide" option pops up. If not on your dashboard, don't recall if there is a way to do it.
That's true, but a service like BandMix has a free part and a paid part. Using the free part is not stealing and I don't think anyone has suggested trying to circumvent the fee requirement to exploit the paid part.
