Anybody else HATE doing yard work?

We have major poison ivy, and grapevine like you wouldn't believe.
Also Kudzu (knotweed) which is nearly impossible to kill.
Major hill, and lots of terraces (pretty standard around here in Pittsburgh)
Wife of Nojj has a garden, which I'm currently expanding, with a further expansion down the road.
Prob is keeping the deer and groundhogs out.

Finally got everything cut that's above my knee (except the fruit trees)

You wouldn't believe some of the weird junk I'm pulling from the ground while excavating.:eyebrow:

It doesn't bother me at all.

I get a invoice in the mail once a month and I mail them a check.
They even plow the snow and shovel the steps and walk in the winter too.


I love gardening but hate yard work, unless it involves a chainsaw.

My upstairs neighbors do the yard work, so no. :D

I used to hate mowing/edging/weedwacking my mom's yard as a teenager. When I moved out at 18, she hired a guy to do it because she didn't trust my little brother to not injure himself. :rolleyes: I do have to admit, though. He's one of those people who couldn't find his ass with both hands.

Like you I have an old house (112yo)
Trees and undergrowth are........massive.
Sizable yard for in-the-city as well.
I'd like to get it to a manageable stage, then pay somebody to do the tedious stuff.
Chainsaws are fun, unless you own a Poulan.
Then you pull-on and on and on, till ya get frustrated and pull out a sawZall.


I'm also held personally responsible for the house upkeep/renovation.
(Used to be a contractor so I can't plead incompetence)
Last year a big-ass tree beat part of the roof to death in a wind storm, had to put up a 2 story scaffold to reach it.
Currently I'm doing windows and foundation work.
For the above reasons I'd like to be excused from yard cutting, but She-who-must-be-obeyed doesn't share my sentiments.

After the first cut in April, the novelty wears off and it becomes drudgery. We keep a couple of acres around the house cut like lawn, and it takes easily three hours to finish. I hit the rest with a tractor and bush hog once or twice a year and call that good. The other yard work - gardens flowers, etc. is handled by the wife. She teaches and is off for the summer, and enjoys doing it, so it works out well.

For obvious reasons I am quite protective of my hands so I try as much as possible to avoid too many opportunities where they could be mashed, broken, burned, sprained, sliced or severed. I also have a robust "respect" for heights. That pretty much restricts my home maintenance activities to lawn mowing, snow removal and the occasional tree trim.

Landscaping, plumbing, electrical, roofing, drywalling and floor/carpet work all gets hired out. I will gladly pay a professional a couple of my gig checks to do a better job than I could and at far less risk to my own health.
