Anybody else not using amps?

True I suppose. But as I'm in the same room and get along with my sound guy, my FOH and IEM tone is pretty nice.

That said, I am debating a REDDI or Avalon or something to "kick it up a notch" when we move to our newly remodeled/enlarged space with Stereo 18" subs and flown FOH. :bassist::hyper::D

I use an Eden wtdi and/or an ART tube MICpre when I go ampless. I really like the eden's tone shaping and the ART sounds good on it's own or with it as well.

I need an IEM system though. Probably going to go wired.

Really wish I could afford a REDDI. I would try a lot harder to get one if it had phantom power though.

Steve if your fortunate to have the same house gig, know the room, happy with your tone & volume and have a good relationship with your FOH person (which it sounds like your situation) then a good DI is all you need, I agree.
I'm stoked for you...

BTW: If you step it up a notch and like what the JDI does then do yourself a favor and look into the REDDI first. I can honestly say there is nothing else like it, not even with the other tube DIs.

I am fortunate.
Many people have said the REDDI is the sh&t for IEM's and I know a guy who will give me a really nice deal on one.

Umm... The SansAmp is analog not digital...

Myself I'll just use my GK MB200 or Aguilar TH350 without a cab as a DI. I also carry a Behringer BDI21 (SansAmp clone) as a backup.

My setup works well for me, and I have never missed lugging a cab/amp. TH pedal DI sounds great out front and in my ear. The older model Zoom lets me have custom settings for all the types of music we play. The MidFreq switch is for my sax mic...best $20 purchase on record.

That's what I used. It did the job. I wish I was a bigger fan if the tone and EQ. It is a very compact and easy option. Probably not the finest clean tone in the game, but if you like what you hear, there isn't much to argue about.

I was just about to mention that. I used a TecAmp Black Jag when I wasn't running my Darkglass B7k.

Always with the caveat that "any" solid state head may not always be true (I always note the language in the Mesa manuals; they state the M6 and the WA shouldn't be run without a load, though plenty of folks record direct with the WA). As a general rule, most SS heads should work.

I use a B3 + DI box with the cover band, with Bassman tone and a little comp, and there's no reason for me to look for anything better. Agree with JimmyM: if you're looking for Ampeg tone there are better pedals.

(For gigs where all I need is a bass rig, I still bring an amp, because tubes.)

Even if I'm using the house, I bring my head (EA iAmp 800) and use the DI from that. It's light enough and doesn't take up that much room.
And, if for some reason, the PA is crapping out, I have a 210 in the car for emergency.

Lots of great suggestions above...my experience:

I switched from using a Sans Amp BDDI as the core of my tone, and went all digital a few years ago. My "A" rig is based around the Fractal Audio AxeFX, but in order to crop my rig down to the minimum (in order to do duo and some other very small shows with tight stages) I tried the ZOOM MS60B and eventually landed on the ZOOM B-3 as my "grab and go" modeling pedal.

Consequently, both of my Sans Amp BDDI pedals were sold off. I play hard rock metal with one band, and use the SVT amp emulation for that, and it sounds fine to me. I like a bit of grind in my tone. For more vintage tones, I've used the Bassman emulation. Really, though, you can get any tone from this box, from ultra snappy clean to heavily effected amp emulations. I'm not going to go out on a limb and say that tonally, the B-3 produces the most transparent, pristine tone, but it is a great bang-for-buck utility pedal IMO.

What are your settings on the B-3 and why is it you say that the B-3 DI is no good?
