Anybody play Ibanez

I never actually cared for Ibanez. (no bashing)

I once was on the point of buying a SR1004 Prestige.
Awesome bass I must admit, very nice quality. But not quite my cup of tea. (Turns out I'm a precision bass guy.)

Although since joining this forum and reading about the ATK...
I'm GASsing for for that one.
Interesting, not too expensive.

This might be my next bass (after my Fender TF).
Perhaps even my first 5-string.


And I think Ibanez gets much love around this board.
I never considered them to make bad instruments.

And here I thought you were a Bongo fanatic? The humble ATK rises to the task. I really miss my ATK, and if the economy ever makes a comeback I'll be all over one again.

I'm not sure if that was directed at me, but even if not, it applies, since I was briefly gripped by "Bongomania" last year, LOL. The Bongo was a great-sounding bass, no doubt. I just couldn't get comfortable with the feel of the neck, however much I liked the tone.

I just snagged a Spector Euro LX from a fellow TBer and it's beautifully made and sounds really good...that typical crispy, throaty, Steinberger-ish EMG grind. I did re-record a few passages of an ATK bass part I had recently laid down on a new song with the Spector so I could instantly switch between the two tracks and compare them in the same context. The Spector sounds quite good, but IMO, not necessarily better than the ATK in the mix...just different. The ATK's neck is definitely more comfortable to me right now, but I need to give the Spector a decent chance before making any decisions about it (it's only been here for 24 hours).

It's all such a matter of taste, of course - some guys would rather play a beaten-up Fender they bought used for $600 than a Wal, even if they could easily afford the latter. The bass that "just works" for you isn't always the most expensive one you've tried out.

I've had numerous Ibanez's including an AFR Affirma A 104, one of the best basses I've ever played. My current one, a BTB 1205 E Prestige will run with the Warwicks, high line Fenders, Yamahas and the likes, easily. I played a bunch of different makes before purchasing the BTB and nothing in the $1400 price compared.

I will get an AFR A 105 if it's the last thing I do. I just missed one on EBAY. Or, have a custom bass made fashioned after it.

It was actually, I remember talking to you and you were touting the Bongo as the ultimate bass. Your tracks you had up at that time DID sound fantastic with the Bongo. I was a little surprised you ditched the 1500$ bass for a 500$ bass, is all :D

iv been a bongo user for about 3 years now :cool: everything about it feels right. cost me more than iv ever spent on any one thing before but man was it worth it. i dont know if its the size of my hands but the neck is perfect and with all the eq pots any sound is achievable. its just stupid amounts of fun to play. iv always seen the ibanez as a real metal kind of guitar and applied that thinking to their basses too. but since its payday friday and all the crack goin on about them i might be tempted to check them out.
