anybody using four 1x15" cabinets stacked vertically as their main rig?

For a variety of reasons -- needing more output & wanting to get speakers up closer to my ear, but still desiring a modular rig & recognizing the value of a stacked columnar array -- I've been entertaining the idea of getting four 1x15" cabinets and stacking them vertically.

But I haven't quite wrapped my head around the scale/proportions of such a towering inferno. Anyone use this configuration regularly? Got any pics of your rig?

I have an old Acoustic Control Corp 408 cab which is the most compact vertical 4X15" you can get.
Two of the drivers face each other into a slot port, an odd arrangement but it sounds very good and seems to handle very low frequency surprisingly well, so I left it actively doing only that in the end. crossed out at 125X
Left the mid and horns up to. JBL 2206h's and 2445's on 2380a horns.

I think 4 15's would be awesome. I have no idea why people assume the only way you can stack them is straight up like a tower. They would be awesome 2x2 and would be right at ear level.

Also quite humorous to think that this would be 'impossible' to do, while 4x10, 4x12, and 8x10 are quite common. Why would 4 15's be impossible????

You could even get a Gallien Krueger MB115 combo and add three of the powered 1x15 cabinets! Each cabinet would have it's own amp, all controlled by the MB115. That would KILL.

How is it impossible ?

There are tons of 2 ohm stable heads, as well as power amps that are stable to 2 ohms per channel.

Pick a cab of your choice.
Get the height and width dimensions.
Find four large pieces of cardboard and cut them to the above dimensions.
Tape them to the wall, one on top of the other.
Strap on your bass.
Assume your rock god position in front of the cardboard stack.
Have someone take a picture.

+1 on the cabs needing to be 16 ohms each to give your amp a 4 ohm load.
That is unless your amp is rated to operate at 2 ohms, then you can use four 8 ohm cabs.
Or...How 'bout a pair of 2x15 cabs at 8 ohms per cab?
Not as modular, but still 4 x 15 at 4 ohms.

And I'd be driving them with a two-channel power amp that's stable into 4 ohm loads, so 8Ω speakers works perfectly for my needs.

I'd bet that set up would kick serious butt big time! Especially with the BagEnds.

You could use 2ohm speakers, you would just need a couple cables wired with one Jack having opposite polarity of the other. Not everything has to be in parallel for it to work....

There have been 8x12's and 8x15's, so I don't see why a verticle 4 1x15 stack is outlandish. Have fun putting an SVT on top....

Jule is now building 1 ohm minimum power amps. Not cheap, but it certainly opens up the options.

You could use two s15x-d cabs on top and two s15-d cabs on the bottom. Sounds like fun to me. > 175 lbs of speaker cab, though, and you'll want a weight belt or a buddy when you put the 4th one on the tippy top. ;-}
