anybody using four 1x15" cabinets stacked vertically as their main rig?

I run 2 Golight 15s and if I could find two more Golight 15s I'd buy them in a heartbeat and run a 2x2 rig. I'm sure it would be awesome. It's actually pretty awesome with just the two, but I'm always wanting more. Too many years of playing with Boogie half-stack guys I guess.

Nope. Not only possible, but done all the time in every 4 speaker cab out there.

You'd just need 1 or 2 series cables rigged to make it work.

Since we are talking 15's, you'll also need a stepstool or ladder.

Yes! Times 2! Four drivers high by two drivers wide, stacked on top of each other. Quoting myself from an older thread:

I had 4 15's for a right and 2 x 2 if perfect. i set up vertically one night and the top speaker was over my head. When the guitar player started jump around, that's when I discovered the stage flexed way too much. I watched my rig lurch around for two hours........

I've been there. Getting tall like that does exaggerate an unstable stage.
It's even worse when your rig is back lined, doing the lurch and its also got 3 or 4 beers on top.

I was thinking fairly compact cabinets, like the Bag End S15D or Flite Sound 115B. Four of those stacked would be 6' tall, putting the top driver exactly at (my) ear level.

And I'd be driving them with a two-channel power amp that's stable into 4 ohm loads, so 8Ω speakers works perfectly for my needs.

I use either a fEARful 15/6/1 with the fEARful 15sub under it (pictured below), or a pair of 15/6/1 cabinets, one with a reverse baffle. Either two make a very tall stack. They just kill.

In the pic below, the rig is connected to an MB800. That is nice, but I found MORE power could be useful, so I drive it with a Crest Prolite 3.0 (~3000 watt) power amp.

15/6/1 + 15 sub height including feet: 31" + 24.5" = 55.5" (4' 7.5") or 141 cm.
15/6/1 + 15 /1/6 height including feet: 31" + 31" = 62" (5' 2") or 157 cm.

As a 6'6" guy, I think I might just like 4 stacked 15s. Or 4 stacked 12s could be a good compromise.

Unless you're a mega band doing stadium gigs and want to look cool there is just no need.

I have found that to deliver a lot of low end for a reggae or gospel band where the PA is not adequate, it is go big or go home.

Yep. Some venues/folks idea of a "PA" don't cut it in the least.

OP wouldn't be able to hear the club owner's request over the sound of the club collapsing.

IMO, a 4x15 rig sounds GLORIOUS. Do it loud, do it proud.

IMO 810s are just about always overkill, for me, anymore.

I don't do these kinds of shows anymore, so I use 2 12s but;

Outdoors, on a flatbed trailer, nothing behind the stage, vocals only PA, metal show, guitarists with half/full stacks, I can see the validity.

Yeah, I'd never need more than 2 15's. BUT an 8 10's moves a LOT more air, sensitivity being equal. If I wanted a 4X 1X15 stack , I'd consider Carvin. Small. super light (geezer w/ herniated disc) and affordable. Talk about a modular rig! Just 3 would make an impressive stack.
