Or maybe people have been looking down on my Ibanez and Carvin headstocks this whole time?

If by "people" you mean the 99% who are uneducated non-musicians who couldn't care less, no, they have not been looking down on your basses.

If you mean the .09% who are educated or experienced musicians but know better, no, we have not been looking down on your basses either.

If you mean the remaining .01% who are douchebags...

Oh well. Haters gonna hate.

Lots of "the label doesn't matter" talk going on. Not buying it for a minute.

How many of this crowd, given the opportunity to choose anything in GC's inventory for free, would choose a Squier CV bass? Answer - none.

- but how much of that would be due to 'Brand X sounds better than all others because of the name' - rather than 'OMG I can have ANY bass I want? For REALS?!?!?!?'

Does the same apply to cars? Sure, there may be stylistic differences, or convenience - but the end result is that it's a tool to get from point a to point b. Unless you're a race car driver, it doesn't matter if your commute is in a Kia Forte (my car) or a brand new Caddy.

I would pick the most expensive, value retaining, bass in inventory.

Then I would flip it.

I'd grab the bass that suits me best, regardless of what's on the headstock.

Or, like someone said, the most expensive bass I could find and flip it.

Wow, what a load of pants-potatoes. I'd go with a Squier, and Talkbass is replete with threads explaining why.

There are other basses (mainly Fenders) that I want, but honestly I'm VERY happy with my Squiers and would happily accept more of them over anything else.

If he's got a Sadowsky, I may get the impression that he's a "learned" musician and is afforded the advantage of a good instrument and is probably performing at the top of his game. At least, the gear is not holding him back any.
Not to dis any Sadowski players here, but it seems like every time I see one, it's being played by some well-heeled wannabe who can't play his way out of a paper bag.

You don't honestly expect anyone to believe this ^^, do you??

The answer here at TB might be "few", but not "none". Out in the real world where players are less focused on gear, there are plenty of working pros who choose inexpensive gear even if they can afford better. Just one example: a working pro I know likes his MIM J-bass better than his '62 J-bass. He said "Don't tell anyone I said this. My bandmates want me to play the '62, but my excuse is that I don't want to bring it to nightclubs. They wouldn't believe me if I told them the truth."
