Anyone else trying to quit smoking in 2013?

Meanwhile, I'm in a dilemma. Tomorrow is my quite date. But I ran out of smokes at like 8:30 pm tonight. I was walking to the car earlier but turned around and decided to just forget about it. Eventually, though, I went and bought a pack. I surely wont' smoke more than a few of these. Then I'll, what? Shred them up and toss 'em in the garbage? I guess I will. *Sigh*

I found myself in this position many, many times over the years I tried to quit.

I would buy a pack to last the rest of the night with the plan to quit the next day, put a nearly full pack in the trash that night, then in the morning either buy more, or sometimes pick the pack out of the trash.

Don't stop trying to quit.

And yes, I would think just using nicotine is a lot healthier than smoking in order to get the nicotine.

I'm doing this goofy thing where I cut down gradually over time. I'm keeping track of how much I smoke every day and after another week or so I'm going to start setting goals and start working my way down.

My past attempts involving stopping all at once haven't ended well, and I've had some success doing this before.

So far all is well.

Ok most of the time.
Some sticky moments
lots of life stress getting me down, but I keep reminding myself the cigarette does not reduce my stress....just my need for a cigarette on top of the stress....which is partly caused by the cigarette.
Do I want to go back to a life of misery , slavery and addiction.
one cigarette always starts the ball slowly rolling towards full time addiction again...Ugh!

I started vaping before Christmas and haven't lit up a cigarette since New Year's Eve. Vaping is an such an excellent surrogate for smoking that it feels like I haven't even quit. The plan now is to gradually reduce the nicotine level to zero.

You know, I see no reason to suffer cold turkey. If you are doing it, great. If you are struggling what's wrong with Nicorette gum, mist, or other aids? Nothing. The important thing is to quit inhaling carcinogens. My choice is vaping. Convenient and effective, not to mention quite cheap. Harm reduction in action. I've read enough on nicotine health effects that I choose to continue to use pure nicotine delivery without tar, etc. The same as I choose to drink two or three beer a day. I have no problem with my vices. Anyone who does can mind their own uninformed opinions.

To you t here that are quitting the carcinogen train wreck, I applaud you and encourage you. Just remember that you can get effective aids everywhere; you don't have to suffer and backslide. This is the twenty first century.

I'm not convinced that vaping is a good idea..."Dr. Mike Feinstein, a spokesman for the American Lung Association said, “People are inhaling some type of chemical vaporized compound into their lungs without really knowing what's in it."

Last year, The American Lung Association issued its own warning about e-cigarettes. “This is a buyer stay away, a buyer health hazard, potentially."

And..."Authorities don't necessarily know what's inside of e-cigarettes, but the FDA tested a small sample just a few years ago and found a number of toxic chemicals including diethylene gylcol - the same ingredient used in antifreeze.

Story says, “I understand they found all kinds of stuff. At one point in time you may have found whatever you want to find. If it can not be substantiated by the other side, you have to question their motive."

I respect anyone's choice to do it, but don't try to convince me that it's healthier

Doctor Robert Greene treats lung cancer patients at the Palm Beach Cancer Institute and said the product is potentially a health hazard. “There really is no information about whether they're safe or not, and that's part of the problem."

...I respect anyone's choice to do it, but don't try to convince me that it's healthier...

That okay, I'm not doing it for you. I'm doing it for me.

The FDA may have detected some unwanted cooties in a limited sample but where did they get that sample? Was it imported? At any rate, based on the ingredients of properly manufactured e-liquid, I'll take what Dr. Greene considers a "potential health hazard" over what concensus indicates is a known health hazard and carcinogen.

Well, I had a cig Monday morning, then went all week without..until Saturday night when I smoked about 10. Threw the rest away when I got home about 1:30 AM. Today, I'm good. No smoking.

That is how I have been. I can go all day without one but at a gig smoke 3/4 of a pack when having a drink and chilling with people at he clubs.
It suks but a bad year and death of my Father brought me around to cigs after being off them almost 8 years.

Haven't had a smoke since Saturday night when I threw those away. Trying not to think about whether I will or won't smoke at the next band get together. Doesn't matter because I'm just not smoking today and that's all I need to know right now.

Yup, dont worry about the future. As they say, one day at a time. All you can do is conquer the here and now, and use that for motivation going forward.
